Yes, I just heard the sad news too. He was 82 apparently.

He was one of Corrie's most successful characters, and his partnership with Mavis was inspired. I will always remember him (and his gnomes) fondly.

Very sad, one of the best characters Corrie ever had. Who can forget the duels with Victor for the hand of Mavis? Not to mention that his Derek, IIRC, was responsible for bringing in another fabulous character, Norris.

Sad news indeed. I watched Corrie back then (gave up on it years ago) and I always loved Derek and Mavis. I remember Norris being brought in as part of Derek's SL and I never could stand him.

R.I.P. Peter and condolences to his family and friends.

sad to read this about Peter Baldwin, if it wasnt for Brian Park, we would have had more years of Derek.

If it aasnt for Peter Baldwin, we probably wouldnt have Norris now

Sad news remember Derek from when i was a kid, always use to laugh at his car with the paper clip on it, Peter Baldwin was a good actor. RIP thought he was older than 82 though but still a good age.

Very sad news.

Derek is often dismissed because of the gnome saga but he was one of those characters who could have you in stitches one minute and crying the next. Peter Baldwin understood that comedy has to be played with the same conviction as drama, and so Derek remained a fully rounded character even when things got loopy.

Anytime Victor Pendlebury showed up you just knew you good times were coming. The best love triangle in soap history!

Very sad news. I used to love Corrie back when I was a child in the 90's, with Derek and Mavis, Reg, Maureen and Maud, Don and Ivy ect. R.I.P.

I have checked Grenada news and there is nothing about Peter Baldwin passing away. Is this thread a wind up? Horrible thing to do if so.

Good point. There is nothing else online.

Wikipedia entry has been changed (which means nothing) and 'Corrieblog' has reported it but doesn't include a link to a story from a reputable news source.

Edit: Wikipedia cites Corrieblog as its source. Hmmmm.

This was reported on the granada news at around 1.55 this afternoon - not a wind up at all.
