We're back to making assumptions about people I see.

Most of the artists I listen to are new actually. Some of my current faves include; Chvrches, Sky Ferreira, Foals, Florence + The Machine, Royal Blood, Silversun Pickups, Best Coast, Paramore.

My credentials are the fact that I have been listening to music from a very early age and have never lost enthusiasm for it. I listen to both mainstream and non mainstream music. I listen to a range of artists. I am not concerned with genres. I listen to albums. I am always finding new artists to listen to. I like music for the sound of it rather than whether it is fashionable or not. I don't rely on mainstream media to discover music...I discover it in various ways. I take an interest in how music is made and who wrote what I'm listening to.

Sorry if this can't compete with the extensive knowledge of your typical Capital FM casual listener.

No Hollie...the credentials you need are more than just listening to music...you need to have a knowledge and approach to listening to music that stems further than just being a casual music listener.

Clive Davis and LA Reid are business men Hollie. Not music experts. I highly doubt they care less about artists who can't make them money. And music should not be about making money.

Mariah Carey? Sorry...why does she have extensive music knowledge? I highly doubt she listens to anything cutting edge.

Also as I have pointed out to you in previous threads. You probably haven't heard most of the artists I listen to. I have probably heard most of the artists you listen to. That would imply I am in a better place to judge each other's music taste...and it would also imply I have a greater knowledge field to draw my opinions from.

Yeah because businessmen in the music industry know nothing about music. Nor do people who have written countless #1 hits and written albums that have sold millions. They know nothing but you apparently know all there is to know.

I'd say listening to music doesn't make anyone an expert though. It takes a musician to really know music, just as it takes a painter to know painting, and a writer to know literature....you have to learn from the inside out. Consuming isn't enough.

If I take an interest in it or if I need to find out for research purposes I do yes. It seems that I know about everyone you mention but you don't know of who I mention. That would imply I have more knowledge than you. The fact is Hollie is certain music artists are superior to others. I have no problem with pop music, I enjoy listening to a lot of pop music. I am also aware however that most pop artists have very limited talent if any at all. Getting a record deal does not equate to talent.

If you can't tell the difference between Ben Howard performing End of the Affair and Britney Spears lip syncing her way through a song that Max Martin wrote then that is not my problem.
