IRC Chat - Anyone ?
Does anyone ever go on IRC here ?
I'm on FreeNode a lot for other developer stuff. I'll idle in #mobiles if anyone wants to drop in and have a chat. If you lot have an IRC channel somewhere else where you lot chat tell me and I'll jump in there. |

If no one wants to idle on IRC and wants to keep it more mobile,
how about a Telegram Group ? Anyone ?

I'm using it less and less. I just don't feel a need to any more, most of the people I talk to on there are also on my facebook, have my phone numbers or both lol

I might have to take a refresher course in IRC but I might drop in later. It would be nice to escape DS. Does anyone know a good client for it on iPhone that will connect with Freenode?

Not sure on IRC clients for iPhone being any good as they will constantly go to sleep when the phone sleeps.
We could maybe do a Telegram Group which has desktop and mobile clients. As far as I'm aware if you join a Telegram Group via an invite link, you only see the person's username and not their phone number. Just confirming that now - does anyone on here use Telegram though ? |

I use Telegram. It's quite cool actually. Happy to test it if you'd like.

There's the group link - should keep everyone anonymous - just usernames or screen names ! Needs to be opened within Telegram. |

Cool well we've tested it and it doesn't share anyone's numbers with anyone else - so seems pretty secure & private.
Anyone else want to jump in just use the link above in Telegram, or just click it on your phone with Telegram installed or on your desktop with the desktop app installed ! |

I've only ever used IRC recently for Planetarion. I still have AndroIRC on my phone, though I hope never to be tempted to play another round and endure the usual 4am wake-up calls from your alliance asking for you to send a defensive fleet to x:y:z.
As a result of PA a couple of years ago, I am also on both WhatsApp and Telegram, but not using them much now. I'm not sure what benefit a DS instant chat channel would add. There isn't much happens here that couldn't wait for a few hours. |

Hey PrinceGaz, yeah there's only 20 odd of us in there now, but its pretty cool to talk to people in real time about say for example today's EE network outage.
Totally up to you though and understood if its not for you as well. |

The telegram group is a good idea, even if I do wake up with like 40 new messages to read!

IRC? That's a blast from the past.
I used it in 1996 until around 2003, originally starting out with Microsoft Comic Chat and over time moving on to mIRC, which I customised to death. I used eggdrops and hacking tools and I even had my own IRCX server at one time, which over 100 people went too. But that was a long time ago and IRC has long died. I ventured onto the Undernet server a year or so ago and it was full of eggdrops and foreign-named channels with nobody speaking. |
