My (only 9 months old) HDR 1010S started continually rebooting.

A few days ago:
It goes through the boot phase (displaying the Freetime logo), and then either shows a screen with some wavy lines on it, or shows the selected channel for about 3 seconds, before rebooting (rinse and repeat).

Listening carefully, it makes a very unsatisfying crunch at the point it decided to start the reboot leaving me to suspect a faulty disk, but why would you write your code to do a reboot in these circumstances? And it isn't - see below

I powered it down and restarted it with no change

So I unplugged it and left it for a few days and thought - I wonder if plugging it into the net with a cable would make a difference, so I did that.

First time around, crashed again, but second time worked - and my disk is OK.

It is now permanently on.

But I can't leave it like that - I need then hardwired router in the office for my computer, and I'm sure that I will absent mindedly hit the off switch at some point

I know that if I breaks again I will need to send it in for a warranty repair, but I only have three months to go. I have no confidence that it wont break again after 14 months (say)

( I threw away a 29.99 sat receiver that broke after this amount of time, but I'm not doing so with a229.99 box!)

Anyone have any similar experiences they can recount?

TIA

The rebooting issue today is widely reported in a thread on MyHumax. For some unpairing the remote schedule app has fixed it.

I don't even know what pairing is

(I saw it in the menu and thought what the flip do you do with this?)

I also don't use any apps

Is it still re-booting ?. It seems freesat may have resolved the issue.

as I partly said:

I had to cycle it close to 50 times to get it to start this time

I am now not going to turn it off until I have cleared the disk of all the "must see" stuff on the disk (basically means all the parts 1/2/3 of the 6 part series that I was lining up to watch when I had them all)

And then I'll see if it reboots again.

I'll have to risk losing 80 eps of Breaking Bad and a few films

It's not clear to me how "freesat" can have resolved the issue.

Are you saying that the rebooting was caused by faulty Tx from the sat?

My thought is that an interaction with freesat's servers can yield unexpected results.
We do know there is some interaction on boot up which we think is to verify on-demand and showcase can be accessed.
Also there must be some extra interaction with the pesky phone app.

When it occurred before the majority did not have the problem or very infrequently.
It cleared up for nearly everyone before freesat released a software update

1) until I plugged in the Ethernet cable a few days ago my box had never been connected to the net (nor a phone)

2) The most recent (only) update for the 1010 is July. It installed itself on my box (OTA) some time ago

I have just come across this thread. My next door neighbour called round yesterday and asked for help, his Humax box was constantly re-booting.
I thought it may be a fault with the hard drive. Today I have read about factory resetting the box twice. We had to remove the two satellite cables to get it to come on. I performed the two factory resets then reconnected the sat cables and the Humax came back on OK. However when we try to record it switches off and reboots. Old recordings made weeks ago still work.
Is the box faulty or is it these clowns that have done an over the air update that is causing the fault?

It's not a software update, it appears to be an issue with some boxes interacting with the Freesat servers, and very unlikely to be a hardware fault.

The integrated nature of the Freetime interface depends heavily on IP data from the Freesat servers.

Check if your neighbours use the remote scheduling app, if so first unpair the app.

However afaik it should have been impossible to reset the box without lnb connections.

Without these and hence no signal from the Freesat home transponder a factory reset will fail at the postcode validation check. This requires the box to temporarily download a postcode database to allocate local channels.from satellite input. I guess it's possible the database is now available via ip (if so it's news to me).

Try disconnecting the box from the internet and repeating the resets with the dish connected. The box should work without a net connection but of course there will be no On Demand services available.

None of this will affect existing recordings (only a disk format will do that).

Thanks,

Now if only they'd replied to my email with that information

(though as I don't routinely connect it to the internet I still fail to see how I can interact with freetime servers!)

My older Foxsat HDR over the last few weeks has started to reboot often while recording leading to incomplete recordings.

Could this be related to the program name issues

http://www.freesat.co.uk/help/got-fr...oxes-rebooting

Or is it more likely the hard drive is on the way out?

If the hard drive, is there a recommended make and model to fit?

Many thanks.
