Yes.
I thought they were all much more negative tonight.
I thought Bruno in particular was bitchy and mocking with a nasty catty edge to his crits.
His crudity with Jay made him look like a guttersnipe.
Has the man got no class at all about him?

On tonight's farrago of rubbish from the judges and a fair few of the competitors, I find this thread a bit off. Tess is just about holding the thing together.

I don't really notice Tess. Remember the youngest kid in the class that was yappy but nobody took any real notice? That's Tess to me

To be fair to the judges, it is week 5 and the standard has to get better.

I'd much rather have Zoe Ball than Tess in for the main show. Tess has been talking over the judges far too much this series, and the constant need to tell me that I've apparently enjoyed every dance is getting on my nerves.

I have a lot of respect for Tess. She is always on the competitor's side, runs a tight ship timing wise (gone are the days are Brucie apologising to one off the judges as there's no time to hear from them), tries to warmly deliver the absolute claptrap the script-writers come up with, and you can never tell when someone is talking in to her ear piece. (Ant & Dec said it was a big reason she was hired for SMTV - never falters when listening and talking at the same time).

So, she is a bit wooden, and she lacks Winkleperson's spontaneity... but I totally respect why the BBC have her in charge of their flagship live show!

I thought Tess was fine. She has learnt from Bruce that you have to lift the celebrity when they are facing a barrage from the Judges. That said Bruce was the master at that.

I don't like Tess being the downstairs host at all. She is not a dancer but tries to give impression that she knows it all. But saying that she must have been given a real ear bashing from the control room tonight as her face was like thunder when she apologised for Bruno's outburst. Pity poor Vernon if he does something wrong!!
She really hasn't got the clout to deal with the judges like Bruce did.

I don't think Bruce would have handled Bruno's incident as well as she did, I suspect he would get quite flustered and mess it up.

I say this as someone who is not her biggest fan, but she is not there to judge, she is there to be the vox pox. It's not that she thinks she knows better than the judges, she just knows what the fans of *that* celeb will think.

Claudia has the freedom to be cheeky, and funny and silly. Tess, not so much. She has to be the grown up.

I think he would have handled it with a stern "we'll have less of that from you Bruno" and then make a light off the cuff quip with one of his faces. Bruce was poor with the auto-cue but great at spontaneity.

In answer to the OP I don't think it's Tess disrespecting the judges as such but, more like the other way around. I can remember a couple of series ago when Tess was standing in for Bruce an all mighty row broke out which made for uncomfortable viewing.

Last series I gave her the benefit of the doubt but, last week she was very loud and irritating, and this week even more so. I don't expect her to be mealey mouthed but, I can do without a foghorn in my living room every Saturday evening telling how me how much I enjoyed some mediocre dance. She really needs to tone it down.

I take your point......but by god....she does irritate

We're not here to hear her opinions. A lot of the blame must go to the producers shouting abuse at her via her mike. Maybe the people to blame are the producers....

To see how other presenters should behave look at the presenters in Dancing with the Stars. Very professional, no stupid jokes. Just do the job.

She was told through her earpiece to apologise at the first opportunity, I am sure. And I loved the moment when her smile disappeared after Bruno's words

You can't blame her, if someone is so out of control then you have no idea what else they might say. Bruno does seem to get himself all worked up at times so could have gone on to even worse.

Well, the Bruno rant and Tess apology has been cut from the BBCi repeat

Which said, Bruno was getting more than a bit out of order tonight. Criticising their technique as Craig does is one thing, but Bruno was getting nasty and actually mocking the celebs which is even less pretty than the dancing he's criticising.[/QUOTE]

I agree with this, I was shocked at his rudeness. There is no need to make fun of the contestants and being so nasty, a side of him I had not noticed or seen before. I hope the BBC take him to task over this.

I understand what people are saying about her role being to encourage the celebs, but everything she says sounds so desperately insincere and/or patronising that I can't believe she actually makes anyone feel any better. I think Claudia performs that role once they get upstairs, so Tess might be better just to say 'well done' and then stick to presenting.

It was quite weird seeing her reaction to Bruno's swearing tonight - everyone I was watching with said that it was the first honest unforced emotion we've seen her display on the show.

Maybe Bruno nicked Len's painkillers and got a bit mellow

She probably just moves off camera out of the way and is watching BUT it does look bad the way she runs off and back, I would have thought someone or her hubby would have said something to her.

She can't stay on the dancefloor, so she needs to leave it and then come back. I don't think anybody's day is ruined if she does it rather quickly. If anything it's a "problem" of cutting the shots of her doing it into the programme.

I agree, a chink of personality, rather than the usual patronising drivel. And it's been cut!

I'd much rather have Zoe Ball than the awful Claudia but I'm happy to keep Tess. She does a good job at holding the show together.

I think someone who has been to the live show has said what happens during the dance.

Possibly watching on a monitor so she sees what the viewer sees. It has never bothered me.

She's professional but there's no connection with the studio audience or viewers and the things she picks up on are usually trivia.

There's protocol for when someone swears on that sort of show and a apology said with a serious face is required otherwise the presenter or programme gets 'outrage' from twitter or press.

I was trying to remember if it was Tess or Cat Deeley who had to apologise after Flash on CDUK who had to apologise for Flash using the F word when talking about his snake biting him.
