I preferred Kellie's, slightly, but I thought they were both overmarked. Sometimes the judges seem extra-tough when marking good dancers; at other times, they let the good dancers get away with a lot, as I thought they did with Kellie and Jay.

What was missing, in terms of steps, moves in your view?

Genuine question.

For me a bit more shaping would have worked but a rock song probably doesn't cut it for inspiration.

It's your opinion but it seems nobody agrees, including the professional judges,
But hey, you stick to your guns.

I thought her timing with her footwork was a bit off, she seemed slightly behind Aljaz to me.

He is a bit robotic for me. Almost like dancing by numbers. I don't get a sense of his feeling the dance and his face just doesn't engage with the dance. Darcey mentioned something about that and she is spot on. He is an excellent technician but that's not all that dance is about.

I genuinely can't think of a male celeb who's done a better one.

I did think you could get a bus between them there was so much gapping which strangely only Len seemed to notice

I thought Paso Doble's all about posing. One thing, though, IMO Jay's was way too straight -- not sticking his hips out to create that little slant position.

I don't agree, I thought his waltz in week 2 was very tender and romantic

If you think that he is robotic...then give me robotic all the time.

Jay understands how make to make beautiful shapes with his body. That's why Darcy loves his hands so much. Jay didn't have all the technique for the Paso but he could perform some parts exceedingly well.

Some people look for the good things in a dance and there was a lot of high quality dancing in there. Some people look for the bad things and they will have spotted that his walking steps were a bit ordinary compared to the rest of the routine.

I still remember Austin Healey's paso

Same here. It wasn't bad. However, it was a bit dancing by numbers for me (too thought out) and also he appeared to be trying wrongly trying to be aggressive, rather than proud and commanding. I didn't understand the complimentary comments about the shaping. I felt the hips should have been further forward and the ribcage higher.

I thought he was fairly marked. Kellie and Helen were both over-marked imo which makes Jay's marks look unfair. It was a good Paso.

Agree...he really showed a soft side...not robotic at all.

I think Kellie, Helen, Anita and possibly Georgina were better.

Two 7s and two 8s would have been reasonable marks for Jay and would have put him at the right place on the leaderboard.

Oh my word 'this'! You have absolutely hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. There is not an ounce of passion. He is a lot better than most of the others, but apart from the jive, there is no connection. I don't feel his dances at all, as you say it's dancing by numbers. Good but not gut punching brilliant, and he really could be if he dropped the scared little boy persona. Drop the act, be the competitive git you are and knock my socks off Jay

Do you think the "professional judges" always get it right, so that people who think Kellie or Helen were overmarked, Katie undermarked, etc, must be wrong?

So long as you keep being patronising.

SO did I, her terrified face is uncomfortable to watch. And Kellie was heavy & stompy. I thought that jive was going to be amazing & I was totally underwhelmed

Maybe that's because he is a (very, very) good dancer. It's clear you don't like Jay, but you have a very strange definition of the words 'posing' and 'walking' if that's what you really think.

I missed this when I posted and used the same phrase. Yes, dancing by numbers.

Great way of describing it . I was stumped on how to comment on him after his routine. I don't like him, I find him false, over rated and I can't be bothered with his wide-eyed innocence act, but I wanted to be fair so I said nothing till I thought it through . His shaping was good, but yes, it was just walking and posing in a butch manner . Being tall helps in some dances , paso and tango in particular . It's easier to look butch when towering over a female . All in all it was an ok dance , but I expected him to come back from the brink with something with more content this week .

Jay shows a lot more personality when dancing than he seems to at other times; perhaps this was a close to passionate and connected as he could get.

I think his jive was a bit 'dance by numbers' too, just with better numbers.

I agree with all this and he needs to drop the act. It's so annoying.
