Sensationalist thread title; but copied the article it was from...

http://www.tellymix.co.uk/ratings/23...t-ratings.html

Quote:
“The X Factor's live judges' houses failed to impress in the ratings last night with Strictly Come Dancing more than 2 million viewers ahead.

Strictly's latest performance show yesterday evening brought in an average of 9.3 million viewers. It was down 500,000 viewers on last weekend's series high but still a strong rating for the BBC One show now in its fifth week.

A peak audience of 10.4 million tuned in as the remaining 12 celebrity couples danced new routines.

The X Factor on the other hand suffered tremendously as it returned to Saturday nights after a five week break for the Rugby World Cup.

A 20 minute overlap with Strictly, a new live judges' houses format that fell flat and a marathon long show saw its average audience collapse to just 6.7 million viewers, including those who caught up on +1.

It's the lowest Saturday night rating for the show this series, and one of the least watched Saturday show for many years.

bluhhhh.

Don't care myself as I don't like Strictly, but like X Factor.

Nice warm family show. Vs

Nasty baying mobs, staged scenarios and contestants having to beg to be kept in.

Maybe the X factor needs to see where it is going wrong - parts of it are just horrible, desperate and just plain nasty.

I know it's seen as "good telly" but I agree that there is a lot of nastiness about x factor which really could easily be cut out. Its unnecessary and uncomfortable to watch. They really don't need to do it. Think it would be much better without the baying mobs and predictable (supposed shock) scenarios. The begging is totally degrading too. Surely it damages the ratings more than helps them? Wish they'd lose a lot of this unnecessary cringe

I have never got strictly at all.

I will have a peak in the spoiler thread about who goes out but that's it.

My issue is I am really not sure whether they have danced well at all and that way I don't feel part of it.

Strictly is much better entertainment and has a nicer feel to it. Not shocked.

Horses for courses. But Strictly has remained pretty much exactly the same show since the start and maintained popularity. X Factor has been molested to nuisance by meddling producers over the years who now don't even allow audition stage audience reactions to be broadcast without being heavily manipulated.

As a basic format X Factor is very strong. What's ruined it over the years are producers obsessed with micro-managing every single second of the broadcast.

Pretty accurate I'd say. It's a shame really

Tbh the age demographic that watch X Factor nowadays won't watch it live they will record it and watch it later or watch it on ITV player . X Factor is still one of the most talked about TV programmes in the country so I don't think it has anything to worry about .

which would have been just as valid last year and the year before but the ratings are still falling compared to previous years

That's the Syco spin.

If this were true then ITV would be publishing these millions tuning in online later on and screaming it from the rooftops, wouldn't they?

But they're not. Odd that, isn't it?

you really think there has been a complete change in the space of 12 months ?

the internet wasn't just invented last year you know

If a significant number of people were watching the show on the ITV Player after broadcast then ITV would be releasing a press release every week proclaiming this fact.

Where did you get 12 months from ? This has been going on for a few years the matter of the fact is people just don't stay in and watch TV on a Saturday Evening like they use to before I know I'm one of them . There's a number of ways of catching up on TV programmes which is what people do regarding X Factor .

because if you read my original post i said that people recording it and watching later or watching via on demand would have been happening last year as well yet the figures are down on last year

so using those as an excuse for the low figures doesn't really make sense

So wouldn't that be exactly the same for SCD then? Surely their ratings would be in the same decline if no one stays in and watches tv live on Saturdays any more?

Yes I know it's been happening last year and it will continue to probably happen because the main age demographic that watch X Factor are teens and young adults and as that age demographic gets older they won't stay in watch X Factor on Saturday night like use to do probably a few years or so ago.

and at no point have i disagreed with that , i have merely said the same viewing habits would have been taking place last year and yet the figures are down on last year

Not to repeat the glaringly obvious but so what? Why do people keep bringing this up? It's been discussed to death! Nothing against you Yohin - more a comment on the state of the forum in general.
