so what ?

your claim is that the 3 million difference between the shows can be explained away by people watching x factor via on demand services but the evidence suggests SCD is also very popular on those services

But on youtube views Xfactor trashes Strictly by millions every week.

Last night was the first time I have watched x factor this year and, based on what I saw, I am not surprised it is lagging behind. The new format with people begging for their spots in the live shows is pretty unpleasant imo and smacked of desperation to revive a tired format. I didn't see anyone to get excited about with the groups being the least bad. I can't believe that I actually agreed with Cheryl's choices. The overs look terrible although the bloke who looked a cross between Chris Eubank and Louie Spence (who seemed like a nice bloke) might be entertaining for a couple of weeks until the novelty wears off, even though he murdered the song in the audition imo. As for the boys, meh. I am sure the Aussie will get through as he is different but his voice is not my cup of tea. Hopefully the girls will be better than what I heard yesterday or I doubt that I will last longer than the 3 live shows that I lasted last year.

Cheryl was made an executive producer of this series and it has been a ratings flop. I wonder what that will mean for her chances of doing the same next year?

The ratings have gone down since she came back - so the whole myth around her has proven to be wrong. ITV need to think about this going forward. Rita Ora would have been better off staying with the Voice and Nick Grimshaw hasn't added anything to the panel - again Louis could have just stayed.

As a basic format X Factor is very strong. What's ruined it over the years are producers obsessed with micro-managing every single second of the broadcast.”

For years I have watched both X Factor and Strictly. X Factor was the number one choice and Strictly was the one I recorded and flicked through. X Factor would always take priority. This year it has been the other way round.

X Factor is trying too hard and has forgotten what made it popular in the first place.

The acts are too contrived and professional from the off now and this 'gladiatorial' aspect they've introduced is uncomfortable to watch and not entertaining.

Last nights judges houses/live show was a mess. The noise made the show unwatchable on its own. I saw it described as 'like being at a swimming gala' and that is probably the best description of what it was like.

Instead of making it bigger and better they need to go back to basics.

No offence but you actually tedious to have a discussion with and I never said that it's solely because people watch X Factor on Itv
Player nor did I say that people wouldn't watch Strictly on Iplayer also .

Executive Producer is normally a vanity title only and means nothing - it's just to feed egos

With Strictly doing Halloween next week expect more of the same, or even worse. I suspect some of the younger audience that watch X-factor may be out as Halloween is on a Saturday this year🎃🎃

Is there evidence of this as the winners of XF would suggest it appeals to an older demographic than teens.

Yes, most young adults would be out on a Saturday night but I've found that SCD appeals to all age groups as well and most of the 20/30 somethings at work watch that rather than XF and they are the ones who are out all weekend

This has been going on for years, it's only by now that millions more are starting to turn away from the show.

I'm not surprised the figures are awful for XFactor, like many I have hung on watching for the past 4 years as it's got worse but after last night I honestly can't face watching it. I've never watched SCD but did last night and it was a breath of fresh air.
The format last night was appalling. I can't see the point whatsoever of judges houses to then be live in a studio for the outcome Why?
The fist audition , boot camp, six chair challenge, judges house to live show, oh then finally the live shows. Sorry but I'm bored. Two and a half hours and not even 20 mins of actual singing. There was actually more advertising time than singing.

The problem is Mr Cowell believes his own self importance and actually thinks we want to see hours of the judges rather than what the contest is supposed to be about. The show is so heavily edited especially the singing that you can't tell are they singing live or miming or have they done a studio recording to play over the top. What was with all the backing tracks played on top. The list is endless of awful editing and how many times can they humiliate these people by getting them to beg and plead.
I'm actually surprised that they got as many viewers as they did as it was so bad. The best thing ITV could do is drop the show and come up with something new minus Simon and Cheryl.
It will be interesting to see if they manage to get a NO 1 single this year. Also the fact Ben Heanew first single since the winners single has flopped. It must be the worst performing release so far. Let's see if his album fares any better.

I didn't say it was only demographic that just the main one are teens/young adults you only have to go on Twitter and Facebook to see that.

X Factor is losing viewers because the audience are all too well aware how contrived it all is , whereas SCD is open to viewers votes as to who stays and who goes
The endless deliberations on X Factor as to which act the judges will choose is all a con, I believe that they are told by the producers which act to choose. Mason Noise would in their book produce good confrontational TV and that's why he was chosen to return. No reason has been given as to why Tom left
Remember Mel B and Louis Walsh being told who to vote off in the previous series
Cowell returned to this show following falling viewing figures when Gary Barlow was there, this year is a good example of what the public think of him

what else got 7 million viewers last night it was hardly an overlap it was 20 minutes SCD HAD AN EASY EARLY FAMILY EVENING BOLL**KS! SHOW SLOT whereas x factor had a hard competitive 8pm-10:30pm slot long or what scd had the advantage of going first not many viewers are going to sit through 5 hours of telly.

I actually think considering all the add breaks they will be pretty please to average out at 7 million.

the question is tonight will they get closer to 8 million with this format change.

They've been dragging out the audition stages for far too long. Live shows should have started weeks ago. People are also getting annoyed with how contrived it all is. How thick do they think the public are about things like Mason and his so called feud with the show etc

Did'nt Cowell say before the start of the series that his new look X Factor would beat SCD in the ratings? So far it has'nt come close once, people are fed up with all the bullshit, it comes across as bitter and certainly fixed. Whereas SCD is more genuine and the contestants put in a lot of hard work, X Factor comes across as a lot of desperate wannabes looking for a short cut to fame singing karaoke, at the end of the day there's no substitute for hard work and the reality is anything achieved without the graft is usually not long lasting, Cowell is not the messiah he wants everyone believe and people have seen through all the crap.

Well that's a load of Boll**ks, When X Factor was the highest watched show a few years back they deliberately scheduled the show to clash with SCD. They then deliberately moved the timings on several occasions to clash when BBC moved time slots to avoid a clash. It's only this year they moved slots to avoid because last year they got thrashed by SCD.
Mr Cowell was so confident last year that with his return and Cheryl they would be riding high again he deliberately clashed again last year then quickly realised he made a mistake. It's more the fact over the past five years 5 million viewers don't want to sit through 2.5 hrs of contrived S**t factor.

Wouldn't surprise me if he was given a backhander to bow out. If they had no intention of bringing Mason Noise back then they'd simply have cut his tantrum out of the previous broadcast.

The fakeness of Cowell's 'outburst' when he got the overs is another example.

God, I hope so. It was like some random Channel 5 teen programme last night , not prime time ITV Saturday night fare.

These people would stay in if they were real fans of XF, but if they were just passing trade, they wouldn't bother.
