I do think J&H- unusually- will grow. It's being condemned on the front page of the Daily Mail this morning. The publicity and controversy will please ITV bosses, even if the initial ratings don't.
I think it has a good chance to grow as well, its on at 7.00 from next week also,it has had really positive reviews all round, and its getting the right demographics against SCD,but we will see.

Untrue. Two thirds of Strictly viewers are UNDER 65. Around 30% are actually under 44.

A commercial broadcaster would kill for it.
My mistake, I just remember some other poster quoting that figure.

I suppose we need to wait for an age breakdown of this year's series of SCD.

Papers using some of the more scary images from J&H to report it while decrying the scary images in the show. The irony of this completely lost on them it seems but the publicity should have ITV bosses rubbing their hands with glee.

It got similar professional reviews as "River" got and we all know how that soared in week 2....
The twitter/FB reaction was mixed at best.

Thanks for being the 876th poster to point out that TXF still pulls big ratings, despite its decline over the last few years.

Of course it does. Its problem is that it costs a fortune to produce. That was fine when it was pulling mega-ratings five years ago, but it isn't now. It will reach a stage where the viewing figures make it uneconomic.
Just to make it clear I haven't watched at all this year I used to watch regularly.

But as 99% of posts about XF are along the lines of oh that's a terrible rating it's should be cancelled it's dreadful itv should be embarrassed etc etc etc

Virtually no posts point out the figures are lower but still good not in this thread anyway ?

Yeah because all those Daily Mail viewers will abandon nice safe Countryfile and SCD next week to watch some ham acting in eyeliner. Get real people.

Primetime shares
BBC One: 24.0%
ITV: 22.7% (+1: 1.4%)
BBC Two: 6.0%
Channel 4: 3.9% (+1: 0.7%)
Channel 5: 2.5% (+1: 0.4%)
.
Interesting that even with both ITVs big hitters, BBC One was very close to winning Sunday peaktime.

I would have thought the last time that happened in Q4 was pre-Downtown 1st airing in 2010?

Not a good opening rating for J&H, but I thought it was really good and it should grow. I quite liked its timeslot because there's never anything on for me then, but clearly a lot of people don't. It does seem like an 8pm or 9pm drama.

That's a quite worrying X Factor rating. Less than Countryfile! I've liked this year's X Factor so far, but this weekend was a mess and felt very amateurish. Probably be a lot better next week when it's the live shows.

I expect Lewis Hamilton winning his third F1 championship last night may have dented the main channels.

Never watched a Grand Prix in my life, but 5Live said it was a cracker.

Averaged 900,000 across the three and a half hours, peaked with 1.7m at 20:50.

ITV seriously need to move J&H to 20:00 and put X Factor on at 18:30, Viewers are sick of the rubbish from ITV and deserve better.

Do we have a breakdown for J&H yet?

i just wonder whether there was a "switch off" by the "family audiences" after the fairly scary opening scenes and a recovery later once the littlies had been put to bed!

Jekyll and Hyde receives a 0-star rating in the Daily Mail who are quite horrified it was put out at 6.30pm, claiming ITV has disregarded the watershed, broken broadcasting rules, that the show is worthy of an 18 certificate and will give children nightmares.

Hundreds have complained to Ofcom according to Broadcast. Also "Jekyll and Hyde is currently being carried on ITV Player with a restricted content warning, which explains that the drama aired after the watershed."

This could be ITV's excuse to swap it with The X Factor. I think TXF could possibly do better if it started at the same time as or slightly before Strictly? Only problem is Doctor Who might then clash with J&H, no?

The live Judges’ Houses experiment didn’t pay off for ITV as The X Factor slumped to a series low of 6.5m (27%).

Ouch. I saw the final 10 minutes and it was horrendous.

From Hassan

Countryfile: 7.04m (33.8%)
Strictly: 8.66m (35.8%)

Jekyll & Hyde: 3.36m (15.7%)
The X Factor: 6.47m (27.0%)
Downton Abbey: 7.64m (34.7%)

Figures include +1 and are tapechecked.
Great for SCD and Countryfile, viewers continue to leave the sinking XF ship, wonder what SC will say now re ratings. People are in SCD proves it.

Interesting article here about both J&H and Beowulf, both being called teatime dramas
http://www.theguardian.com/media/201...v-sunday-drama
(sorry if this has already been posted)

Look at the budgets for both dramas though:
J&H £14m and Beowulf £17m!

Beowulf especially just from the promos looks more like a later drama, at least 8pm, surely that won't go out at 6.30 and be allowed to get dismal ratings will it?

I would move J and H to 20:00 and put Beowuif on at 20:00. It is stupid that Simon Cowell gets prime slot and needs to be moved.

The X Factor has been a steadily sinking ship since 2011, so nothing new here. They have failed to stop the decline since then. However, it's still pulling in a load more viewers than anything else ITV could put in that slot, so for them, not where they want it, but still a big show.

Another all day strong performer for BBC One, solid ratings throughout the day. Is this down to the state of the other channels performing badly, or down to successful programming? I think its the latter. ITV proves it can draw in a massive audience when they create shows people want too watch.

There's little excuse for Jekyll, wrong time slot? Maybe, but there would be complaints about it's time slot either way. But from the trailers I have seen, it would fit better between XF and Downtown, as a sort of crossover show.

I think I predicted 3.2m for Jekyll, so I wasn't far off.

Either way, not a poor night for all concerned. Solid shows performing strongly across the two main channels.

If Countryfile can pull in 7m in that time slot, and past Doctor Who episodes have had in a similar timeslot, then no excuses can be made for Jekyll.

Yeah, interesting article. Basically, then, the channel is only putting in some of the money, with ITV Studios/Worldwide putting in the rest, with the hope that they sell internationally. It almost - almost - doesn't matter how it rates in the UK, and why it's been given a "nursery slope" slot at 6:30pm. Having said that, this same strategy was behind Britannia High and we all know how that turned out...
