How long before we get The Lion King? They've pretty done the majority of the backcatalogue apart from that one.

They do need to improve the weekend slots, Saturdays could be easily fixed with moving back FLT to 10pm, Sundays should be movies all day, the fact Robin Hood Prince of Thieves got over 1m does show people could tune.
Football League Tonight will have to move to another channel with a night repeat straight after Match Of The Day on Channel 5, You can't put it on opposite Match Of The Day as it will rate even worse.

From Hassan (I'm assuming ITV includes +1).

Jekyll & Hyde: 2.24m (9.5%)
The X Factor Results: 7.17m (29.6%)
Downton Abbey: 8.87m (39.0%)

at that Antiques Roadshow rating!
Excellent rating for the Downton series finale.

In the context of The X Factor times past, that is a poor rating

In the context of entertainment shows in general it's still a great rating, that very few shows manage to reach.

BARB have updated w/e 1 November.

Notable ratings:
Downton Abbey (Sun) - 9.80m/10.26m (+2.26m/+2.38m)
Massive time shift pushing it over 10m. Shows how all the negative remarks saying Downton was going out with a whimper are not really valid.

5.33m for Unforgotten ep4

1.87m inc+1 for Celebrity Juice Halloween special
Another show where the overnights barely tell any of the story. To think that was a show someone not far from here was saying was tired and should be rested.

How many digital channel shows push 2m?

Some good numbers for BBC2 and Channel 4 in the weekly ratings. Channel 4's SAS programme and First Dates over 2m, Catastrophe up to 1.43m. All excluding +1. The Last Kingdom at 2.65m for episode 2, Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two doing well opposite Hollyoaks.

And in multi channel Celebrity Juice and Big Bang Theory doing well.

Andy do you think you come over as passive aggressive? Just say the name and be done with it.

#StrictlyResults waltzed off with a hefty 10.4m/43% on BBC1 from 7.15pm @MrPeterAndre http://www.overnights.tv

10.3million tuned in for the @bbcstrictly results show last night, with a peak of 11 million seeing lovely @carolkirkwood leave the show
Tape-checked (19:20-20:00): 10.43m (43.0%)
* from DS
Full-slot (19:15-20:00): 10.33m (43% to 1 d.p.)
* from ITV Media

This implies that the 19:15-19:20 period averaged 9.51m.

Was there something special about Antiques Roadshow that week? That's a high rating for it.

Seems like its been a long while since the last really strong night of ratings, but Sunday definitely delivered. Brilliant for Strictly, which has also lifted its surrounding shows, and for the Downton finale.

I agree with Dancc, it would be nice to see DA go out with a bang on Xmas Day and to the ratings. But for some reason, even in EE's weak state, viewers who never watch EE througout the year, watch on the day. The mind boggles.
I suspect Downton will go out with a bang - though you may have to wait till the consolidated figures. The issue it has with live viewing is that two hours is a real slog at the end of a Christmas Day, especially if it finishes at 11pm. (I'd personally just air it 8-10 and have done with it).

Time shifting, on the other hand, is something else altogether. My long-range festive prediction is for Downton to break its own record (jointly held with Sherlock, I believe) of around a 3.5m increase.

Nothing particularly eye-catching in the write-up for last night's episode; it was a return visit to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

It was up +0.7m week-on-week, like its lead-in, Strictly. Probably those two facts are related.

The total TV audience was only up +0.5m in the 8pm hour, so with Factor up +0.5m, channels other than BBC One and ITV must have been down -0.7m.

Gogglebox bigged it up no end on Friday.

I suspect its a knock on effect. As ITV drama J&H is doing poorly, those viewers who might have watched ITV at 7pm for LE (Surpise Surprise) turn to BBC1, thus boosting SCD, that then boosts AR with TXF also weaker, which then boosts The Hunt and minimalses the drop of viewers the factual series might have experienced.

The fact is BBC1 from 5.30pm - 9pm pulls in the older audience which massively boosts their ratings, and that is why BBC1 does so well over any other channel, because their core audience are older than the commercial channels.

DA was a direct contrast to ITV's audience from 7pm-9pm.

Would be interesting to see if Antiques Roadshow got slightly younger demos than usual.

I suspect this will be the only year, many will want to see DA live since the 1st Xmas special. I thnk it will manage a figure around 7.5m-8m and consolidate to 11.5m, topping Xmas Day ratings alongside MBB.

In fact The Hunt's second episode was actually up fractionally in viewers (+0.02m) although not in share (-0.9 point). It claimed a smaller proportion of a growing pie as the total TV audience was up in the 9pm hour by +1.2m on last week (24.0m v 22.8m).

Shows why chasing after one demo isn't great for ratings in terms of volume.

ITV Media has up-dated
Someone normally asks for these I think (from Saturday):

4 BBC Four - 09:00 PM Arne Dahl 496 2.4%
5 BBC Four - 10:00 PM Arne Dahl 479 2.7%

Great retention of 97%.

The last edition of Holby City to make Broadcast magazine's chart of the top 30 consolidators was on 8 September. It's good when this happens because you can derive the River City overnight from it. Here is the calculation:

Overnight: 4.03m (19.3% of UK audience)
* includes Scotland (River City)

minus -0.27m viewers of River City in Scotland*
plus +0.61m pure timeshift in Eng/Wales/NI (+16%)

equals Consolidated: 4.37m (19.5% of UK audience)

It used to be that Holby lost about -400k through disregarding Scotland and then regained +400k through consolidation, resulting in the consolidated number roughly matching the overnight; but now it seems Holby's timeshift has increased while River City's overnights have declined (admittedly judging by that single week in September).

* should be correct to within 0.02m; any tape-checking adjustment would have been tiny.
What happens to people who watch Holby City in Scotland? It's usually (always?) shown in a post-10pm news slot on BBC1 Scotland. Do they get added to the consolidated figures (and if so, where would they be counted above?).

EDIT - Holby City, not River City. Oops.

Antiques Roadshow doesn't add millions of viewers over the week and beyond...

If its shown at a different time in Scotland it will not be added to the consolidated figure.

Some performance from Sky Living's The Blacklist- 1.11m consolidated.

S2 opened with 980k. Refreshing to see a US import up year-on-year, because most have been down.
Very good for The Blacklist. its a great show and deserves to do well.

The same can also be said for Arrow which recently returned for its fourth season. It started with 1.11m too. The third season opened with 1.04m. Both those exclude +1 as the +1 rating failed to reach the Sky1+1 Top 10 chart for the season 3 opener. If you include +1, Arrow season 4 premiere achieved 1.19m.

The Walking Dead also returned up versus its previous series. The Flash was only down marginally. US imports seem to do better on the smaller channels. They seems to get lost on C4 and C5.

That's a pretty poor rating for Cuffs, I'm sorry to say. Can't see it coming back for series 2 now, especially since last week it got 3.4m - that would be a consolidated rating of just over 4m based on the above figure.
Holby and casualty are only getting around 4.5m to 4.8m so not a huge difference if Cuffs consolidates to around 4m after the first week.

Excellent for Strictly last night. It's up 1.1m versus the same episode last year. DA finished in style. For a show that's still consolidating to 10m - it seems a bonkers decision to end it. How long before they find a new drama that can achieve those kind of numbers? A long, long time I imagine. XF did OK by recent standards. ITV Q4 is going to look very grim next year.

Some really nice numbers last night, unless you're a fan of Jekyll and Hyde. Abysmal.

I'm more surprised to see Casualty and Holby City under 5 million - I know the latter has opt-outs, but I'm certain the former consolidates to over 5 million?

Sky spend a lot more on marketing of course and I think viewers paying for Sky feel compelled to watch more of it than they might otherwise would to justify the subscription costs. That for me is why imports on Sky are holding up better than those on FTA channels as Netflix et al continue to gain momentum.

The overall picture is still grim for imports on linear TV IMO but well done anyway to The Blacklist and the other shows you mentioned for bucking the trend. The Walking Dead in particular has been pleasantly surprising in that just when you think it has peaked, it finds more from somewhere.

Another great episode this week, by the way. I know I've accused it of being a little overrated in the past, but it's done enough to keep me watching. And I'm REALLY enjoying this season, much more than the last couple. Hope they can keep it up.
