Because a show can post a decent rating but people will still pick holes in it. Ok the share wasn't as good as it could be but the rating was decent.

The EastEnders rating isn't great for a Monday in November. It should be higher than this. As an EastEnders fan I'm not going to say it's great and things are fine.

Hugh's War on Waste was shown later in Scotland and Northern Ireland so the 4.62 m includes the local programmes

Not just my opinion. It's a criticism often levelled at it for example the seemingly endless eps with them milling about the prison or the farmhouse. It's padding as opposed to storytelling. Z Nation counters these longeurs in TWD by keeping things moving, literally, at all times. I like both shows but I'm not blind to the faults of either.


I don't see that much difference in production value between the two shows. TWD can afford a bigger cast but other than that I don't suppose fake blood and prosthetics are breaking the bank.


Perhaps someone should remind them of that. They seem to forget too often that it is, or should be, a zombie show.


I don't know that show. I see Z Nation as filling a gap TWD is not catering to ie a fast-paced, funny and zombie-packed show. TWD is many things and a fine show in its own right but it's slow, humourless and often ages goes by without zombie action. That is what I mean when I say Z Nation perhaps exists because those things are somewhat neglected in TWD.

Decent how though? It wasn't even up on last Monday, when the majority of other shows in primetime last night were. Also down heavily y-o-y, which in turn was down on the year before, etc. Furthermore, the share was below average, only narrowly making it the BBC's top performing show of the night on this measure (NAT: 27.6%).

So I don't really see why you felt the need to rush to its defence, and the way you went about it was rude.

Well, c'mon you are not seriously using the "lots of other people say it so it must be true" argument, a lot of other people say Z-nation is a tacky and cheap rip-off, doesn't make that true.

As I say we clearly disagree in the slow bits, I love episodes like the Morgan one, it kills off characters it needs to build an interest in new characters. No it clearly doesn't see itself as just a Zombie show, and that's why it's made as it is. and never mention zombies.

It has actually injected a fair amount of humour recently, with Eugene. Not a laugh riot though, I'll admit.

On production values and acting, well, umm I'm not even sure you are serious? So probably best not to bore everyone else in this thread anymore, as we clearly fundamentally disagree. In the end Z-Nation, IMHO wouldn't exist without the Walking Dead, and it goes for humour because it's not that good at anything else. I do find Murphy a fun character, and it's watchable because of that.

Surely the year on year decline for all soaps is a worry for the long term health of the genre? Down in the officials not just the overnights. It's not so much that their in danger of the axe in the short to medium term but that these once regular big crowd pullers and in the case of ITV soaps good earners are now a declining asset. At some point, not sure when tv executives are gonna need other options and need to plan accordingly.
They seem too reliant on this declining asset and soaps getting themselves into a massive mess like EastEnders is only gonna hasten their decline. (in the long game)

Same old story of posters being ridiculed because they criticised a certain show. Doesn't put me off though. I'll continue to put across how I'm interpreting the data and explain my reasoning. The data doesn't lie if it's showing a trend.
