As for commenting on EE's declines, I think what some of us object to is that it's always EE in crisis when the genre as a whole is suffering. Corrie is usually down the most year on year yet this doesn't get commented on to the same extent. Occasionally Corrie posts a half decent Monday rating, way out in front (though still massively down on a couple of years back) but usually all 3 are within a million of each other and it seems ridiculous to single one out as doing particularly worse than the rest.

I was only replying to somebody else who chose to praise EE's rating, unwisely in my view, and I can't comment on ratings that haven't yet been released.

How do we think Children In Need will rate on Friday? Last year it averaged 8.29m but this year it'll face Spain v England on ITV. I think it may struggle as it's become quite stale in recent years.

Only 2m (9.6%) for The Hangover. Retention after the news wasn't great either, only 1m (10.4%) watched part 2 from 10.45pm.

I know it was only there to bridge the gap between Doc Martin and I'm A Celebrity but that's still really poor.

I might be being thick but why didn't they start Doc Martin a week later so it ran straight up to I'm A Celebrity?

They could have done, but all it would have meant was they'd have had this awkward gap in September rather than last night. Travel Guides finished on 24th August, they had the one off Dinosaur Britain on the 31st then started Doc Martin on the 7th. All starting Doc Martin a week later would have meant was they'd have aired The Hangover (or some other one off) on 7th Septmeber instead.

I comment on EastEnders because it's the one I like.

Saying ratings are okay is the complacency that got the show into this mess in the first place. I don't think falls are inevitable and the ones on EastEnders were quickened by being poor for several years. Post live week hurt it this year as well.

It's Monday (the best rating day for soaps), 8pm (more viewers around than at 7.30pm) and it's November. It should be managing 7m.

Corrie in crisis!!!

Which surely would have made more sense rather than splitting a film around the news in November. But maybe that's just me.

What on earth is with this dropping off for the second episode we're seeing with Corrie lately?

I happen to think last night's first episode was one of the best episodes of the year in terms of dialogue and so on, and the cliffhanger was great. So... bit confused as to how it's lost a million viewers.

That is very, very odd. Are we sure it's not a mistake and should say 7.4m for episode 2? Do MediaTel include +1 or just not report them?

The premiere only managed 2.74m/15.3% during the holiday season last year, so that's about what I expected.

I was surprised to see them repeating it on the main channel in a 9pm slot. Surely they had something stronger to fill the week's gap.

Forget about Coronation Street; News at Ten only drew 1.4m viewers??? All hail the revamp of the revamp...

Interestingly it says there that The Hangover pulled in 2.8m viewers. Looking at the share, a typo?

2nd episodes is poor for corrie.

I think it was stupid showing the second part of a film after a 45 min news bulletin. Couldn't they have shown the news later or is it some sort of "law"?

It doesn't stop them any other time - look at next week. News at "Ten" is on at different times nearly every night.

You'd think so. Often at this time of year they use music specials to plug gaps in the schedule - I wonder if one fell through and this was the last minute replacement.

It was a surprising choice. I'd have thought they might have gone for The Dark Knight (the premiere was dented by a strong BBC1 schedule) if they wanted to repeat one of last Christmas's premieres.

Corrie's second episode drop off is now becoming a serious concern. If this continues you begin to wonder if they will drop one of the 8:30pm episodes and move it to Sunday.

Although you must say that that 35% share for the first episode is impressive.

Re ITV's News at Ten I'm sure Tom Bradby will be saying it's all the BBC's fault and how unfair far more viewers choose to watch their news. What happened to that average two million figure he was bragging about ?

Indeed I'm sure many excuses will be given but that really shows how awful Corrie is at the moment.

I thought it was Huw doing the bragging ?

Not much Bradby can do with a young-skewing 2m lead-in to be fair. He's not a miracle worker.
