I agree. (Edited bit about CL!), minute's silence would suffice if it goes on.

Bit sad to see Alastair Stewart on Twitter, trying to turn it into a willy waving contest over who had the best coverage.

"They [BBC] opened with it, briefly, then went into a prepared RO; @itvnews, in effect, went open-ended & reprised. #Strong "

"#Paris 'Running-orders' in the head-lights elsewhere; @itvnews calm, current, clarity. @julieetchitv & @JulietBremner, brilliant."

"Much stronger first 10 minutes with @itvnews: @julieetchitv & @JulietBremner - strong, calm authority."

As discussed earlier, French media are reporting that Tuesday's match has already been postponed though the FA and FFA are still to liaise regarding the game, according to the BBC:

It has been called off according to The Sun - wonder what ITV will fill the slot with ?

Presumably it'll be a repeat or possibly a news special at 8pm and then I'm A Celebrity at 9pm.

BBC and Sky ran through the night with the story...ITV broadcast captions promoting their output and didn't even try to mount a breakfast show - this is the channel that takes news ''seriously.''

Really?! Shocking. Still, can you imagine the GMB mob trying to cover this if it'd been the day before?

Wednesday 10.30
Thursday 10.05

Breakdown for CIN last night will be interesting. Must've fallen of a cliff @10pm as people switched to the news channels.

BBC2 carried on from Newsnight with the News Channel but switched to the scheduled Question Time repeat at 2.10am.

(1) Disgusting for ITV trying to use a terrible attack to have a go at BBC news, shame on them.

(2) Where is ITV news this morning? Major news story, the BBC has a breakfast special, and ITV......well....showing CITV. Their senior newscasters in a warm bed having a lie in, this is why people turn to the BBC for serious news.

ITV scoring a serious own goal here. They start a slagging contest, then go to bed and do not get up the next morning. Seriously!

To be fair all the comments I read in the thread in GD said how poor the BBC coverage was and they were turning to Sky News

It was abysmal, much like their coverage of the Charlie Hebdo killings at the start of the year. Sky's was vastly more informative.

BBC 1 will have started showing the news by 2.10am

To be honest the 7.30pm - 10pm slot is the bit that rates the best any way, so that should be a good rating but the average will be lower

BBC One left Breakfast 45 minutes earlier than usual to show Saturday Kitchen Live. I'm surprised they didn't continue on the main channel.

I expect BBC News Channel has particularly high ratings at the moment, but at the same time there is no terrestrial coverage at the moment meaning some people might not even be aware of the news yet.

I thought both Sky and the BBC did well during the night; BBC had two correspondents reporting from Paris, Sky didn't seem to get anyone there until 7 a.m.,relying on phonos with journalists, but I assume they don't have a Paris correspondent. The references to a special edition of BBC Breakfast were puzzling as it was the usual programme without all the extra bits like sport,Click and The Film Review, none of which were a great loss. But there must be a big question mark about how ITV handled it (or rather didn't).

9.30 am News special and BBC world together.

Gavin Esler presenting from BBC News studio,

Breakfast ended early at 9.30 to make it more formal.

People can find BBC News channel quite easily, pity ITV is running CITV.

BBC News could just have 1 picture and someone on the phone and they'd most likely still have more viewers, which is sad really. This happening on a Friday evening caught the news orgs off guard and it was noticeable. We may have 24 hour news channels, but essentially it only fully runs from 6am Mon to 5pm Fri.

ITV should count their lucky stars that Julie Etchingham was down to present News at Ten last night.

I was watching BBC News coverage between 12 - 1 and was good apart from the fact that they spoke about things that were unconfirmed on social media but I believe that before that it wasnt the best coverage

Goodness me, despite this horrible attack on Paris there are still people scoring points on News channel coverage slagging off one because one (BBC) is always supremely better to them. Just because you don't like one channel, don't use this too score points. Does it matter?
