To be honest I thought the same thing when I saw it was airing in that slot. ED is far more violent than Corrie despite airing earlier.

I agree that there is something of an overreaction but I think the difference is that in J&H it was sustained throughout although it wasnt a worry for me, the fact that they were trying to tone the violence down with slow motion/quick cutting etc probably means that they knew they were close to the edge in that respect.
I didn't feel comfortable with Jekyll and Hyde on at 6.30. Not so much because of the level of violence shown, but because the violence is being carried out by the main character, who is clearly being presented as the hero and the romantic lead. I think that's very different to Doctor Who. To me, putting it on at 6.30 on a Sunday is like saying it's a kid's programme, and I don't think it's in the show's best interests to be presented as that. I'm not saying it shouldn't be on, at all, I just think they've made a lot of problems for themselves they didn't need to have by the scheduling.

Neither Jekyll or Jekyll and Hyde tell the story of the Robert Louis Stephenson original.
Both stories tell stories based on descendants of the original Dr Jekyll. Completely different stories.
I'd definitely recommend Jekyll to you, and you could probably see what this new series is like as it's not based on the original classic. It's a completely different story.

My 87 year old Dad said last night he was shocked it was on at tea time. He recorded it to give it a chance. Thought it was good and has set to record full series. He thought it should be on after watershed but that may be down to his age.

Back then network channels had to wait 10/12 years before they could show premieres on TV. That later dropped to 5 years then 3 years. Now it's 2 years. I think Live And Let Die is the highest rated Bond movie on British television.

Pretty much what others have said. Too violent and too overtly sexual. Not suitable for kids (or at least 'pre-teen' kids).

It's probably part of a grand masterplan so that further down the line they can complain that the Strictly results show having the temerity to be scheduled in primetime meant they had no choice but to start J&H so early. Or something.

To be fair all schedulers seem a bit clueless but this one is right up there with the Our Zoo scheduling which ironically would have been perfect at 6.30pm on a Sunday.

It's itonic really because Higson's last show Professor Branestawm was put at 8.30 and it was criticised as being too late for what was a fairly childish show. This time it seems he has the opposite problem. He can't win!

Alison Graham took a whole page to tear it to pieces in this week's RT. Can't recall seeing such a vicious but wholly accurate gutting of a show take up quite so many column inches before in RT.
