That is true, but as you say the change to the current number of adverts was a long time ago. I think you are talking early 00s.
There isn't a constant increase in adverts year on year on year like what was being suggested in the earlier post, and there isn't more on ITV than on any other commercial channel. There are more adverts on ITV than on BBC1 which seems to be the key point here.
For everyone's information, the rules are that no ad break can last more than 3 mins 50 and only 3 mins 30 of that is allowed to be actual adverts. There can also be no more than 12 mins of adverts in a single clock hour and no more than 8 mins on average during prime time (6pm-11pm)
You will generally find the maximum allowed in the highest rating shows and some programmes running with less adverts.
Non PSB channels have less strict rules.
