I watch Emmerdale now on record. It's just easier. Drama I now download as it means I don't even need to fast forward the adverts.

Well they have the programme about the potters wheel already, they could just repeat that.

There are no more adverts than there has ever been, you do realise thats how ITV make the money that makes the programmes.

I watch ITV programmes when they very occasionally show something worth watching. However, I can't remember the last time I saw any adverts. I just record the programme and zip through them, or get the On Demand version via Sky.

I don't have time to sit through the adverts. I'm not a charity.

Maybe it was just an honest mistake?

There used to be just 2 ad breaks in an hour long ITV programme until about 10 - 15 years ago. And they would last for around 3 minutes. Now there is up to 4 ad breaks in an hour long programme, averaging around 3 and a half minutes per session. So, yes, ad breaks have more than doubled. It is telling that whenever I channel flick, regardless as to what time of day, all the channels I switch to are on a commercial break!

DS rating will be tape checked. ITV media is full slot rating. Its as simple as that - hence the slight difference.

IAC downloads at 48 mins. 12 mins of adverts. So a fifth of time is adverts.

Last night Emmerdale 47 mins!

It's annoying that the DS report excludes 10pm on BBC2.

Earlier, the amazingly-titled Emergency! Trains vs Weather wowed 2.44m (11.2%) at 8pm (108k/0.5%).

Holby City 4.05m (18.7%)

That 8pm slot is there for the taking. ITV could be top inthe 8pm slot if they put on something worthwhile.

I really think The Chase specials would be good here.

That is true, but as you say the change to the current number of adverts was a long time ago. I think you are talking early 00s.

There isn't a constant increase in adverts year on year on year like what was being suggested in the earlier post, and there isn't more on ITV than on any other commercial channel. There are more adverts on ITV than on BBC1 which seems to be the key point here.

For everyone's information, the rules are that no ad break can last more than 3 mins 50 and only 3 mins 30 of that is allowed to be actual adverts. There can also be no more than 12 mins of adverts in a single clock hour and no more than 8 mins on average during prime time (6pm-11pm)

You will generally find the maximum allowed in the highest rating shows and some programmes running with less adverts.

Non PSB channels have less strict rules.

That would result in The Chase airing twice in 3 hours though, although I suppose they could take The Chase off at teatime during the run of prime time specials.....

Normally Neighbours stays at 5:30 even if H&A is off air.

It's probably a test to see how it does there, and if it doesn't work they can return it to 5:30 in the New Year.

H&A only really needs two screenings- one at lunchtime and one in the evening on either C5 or 5*.

I think going forward Neighbours would be better off at 6pm. I know it would be against the news, but it would also be away from The Chase & Pointless which must have more of a cross-over.

Series 1 Total Audience: 9.37m
Series 1 Live Audience: 6.28m (approx)

Series 2 Total Audience: 9.21m
Series 2 Live Audience: 5.16m (approx)

So despite the overall audience for both series being very similar, there was a drop of around 1.1m (18%) in the live audience, which no doubt hit ITV hard financially. You can see why they're irritated but I don't think there's much that can be done about it really.”

You can't blame the entirety of the 1.1m drop on the BBC opposition though. Series 2 aired from March, series 1 aired straight after Christmas.

Common logic should tell ITV that the opposition on all channels will be tougher in January than March, it's as simple as that. Plus, people will have no doubt used the first few weeks of January to catch up on Xmas TV.
