I wonder if one obvious reason why this SAS series on C4 hasn't done that well is because BBC2 have just shown that Special Forces series which, to my mind, seems to have done more or less the same thing. Had they been the other way round, I wonder if the ratings for C4's show would be better.

It was only on in Northern Ireland, so all the viewers will have been subsumed into the Traffic Cops figure, for now.

No surprise I'm going to comment on this given I always seem to bang on about it. You can argue that by saying "this week" they're not specifically saying to tune in on a particular night, but on the other hand by saying a specific night, they're saying "don't bother with any of the other ones, they're not very important". To my mind, the "this week" approach is better because it promotes 'stEnders in general and not just one episode. We often say on this thread one of this show's problems is that people tune into big episodes and then don't bother with any of the others.
I also agree with Neil that it's too confusing to talk about changes to episode times this far in advance. I don't especially think it's worth trailing Thursday's time change to any great extent because if you tune in at 7.30 as you would expect, you will be told when it's on anyway and you won't have missed it. Friday's episode maybe, but not now.

Mohammed is not in the same league as Stelling and often struggles to cope with the demands of the fast-moving broadcast. The pundits vary but hardly any of them are worth listening to. And the match reporters tend to be incredibly irritating as well, often having no clue at all what they're talking about. One moment that stands out was Ivan Gaskell suggesting Harry Kane might be a one season wonder just three games into the new PL season.

Well, you say this, but having access to both I do actually watch Final Score (for the last half hour, I listen to the radio from 3pm because I always have). I'm actually getting a bit fed up with Soccer Saturday, I think it's increasingly self-indulgent and pleased with itself, and Stelling himself shoots his mouth off to much. Last season he was moaning about the lack of 3pm kick-offs in the FA Cup, which is none of his business in any case, but was particularly irritating coming from someone on Sky. And it always seems to have the attitude that all refereeing decisions are wrong until they prove otherwise. And I don't know how anyone can argue it's the gold standard of punditry when they continue to employ Paul Merson.
Somewhere else, pages ago, asked what the best slot was for Premier League games, and it's Sunday 4pm by miles. Someone suggested Mondays but that's not especially the case, it has much stronger competition from the soaps and other big shows, and often the matches played in that slot are very weak because they can't pick teams in the Champions League or the later stages of the Cups most weeks.

A drama like this outside of their usual comfort zone needs absolutely everything going for it to have any chance of posting strong overnights in the long term. So putting it on so early when it doesn't tick the family friendly box is a huge risk.”
Well, I don't know what it says about my expectations but when I saw the rating I thought it was alright all things considered. I would agree with this, and I really think they would have been much better off showing at least the first episode in an 8pm slot. Tomorrow at eight would have been really good, because it would have a Corrie lead-in and even it didn't win the slot, it might have knocked a million or so off Cuffs and spoiled that a bit. I'm still convinced many people just didn't know it was there.

They've shown Sherlock on New Year's Day three times, and not even three consecutive New Year's Days either. Hardly anyone can remember when it was last on anyway. I don't see why they need to "mix it up". People are not thinking, oh God, not Sherlock again. Why must they mix it up? People like tradition and familiarity at Christmas anyway, because it's Christmas. I don't expect to have my Christmas dinner on Boxing Day in the name of mixing it up.
