Looks that way. Less than a million above Po'G, who used to dent the soap on Mondays back in autumn 2012.

I just can't be bothered with EastEnders at the moment. I'll watch Christmas Day's episode and decide if it is worth watching any after that.

EastEnders shouldn't be losing viewers against factual programming. If it was a better show people would watch and follow it around. DTC has screwed it.

There were complaints when it was perhaps seen as banal a few years back.

Iv been watching it since the Lucy death was announced as a storyline and my only complaint is that no-one is allowed to be happy for more than a couple of episodes -although arguably that's Eastenders trademark for much of its 30 years. That may be a reason its not appointment viewing I don't know, but otherwise I don't think its as bad as its painted on here.

Soap is clearly yesterdays triumph and that means its not just Eastenders that is suffering, EE is less resilient to change and match ups without doubt but it can still be in the same ballpark most of the time given a clear run.

Lots of brickbats thrown at EE on here-what kind of direction does the show need to take in anyone's opinion to make people tune in more?

Indeed, that gap is too close to comfort. So this week it has been dented by Paul O'Grady's Dogs and The Martin Lewis Money Show. Doesn't look great really.

It must be right then. I wonder if the BBC can take the same tact as Simon Cowell does with the X Factor ratings.

The Beeb would have been better to have left the show at 7:30 and let it clash, blame itv for the low rating, where as it is a bit difficult when there wasn't a clash and to say it was out of its time slot doesn't wash.

I know the figure will rise by quite a bit in the officials, but even so. Sad times.

Ch4 are going to have a btter loking NYD than ITV, with a film premiere of Finding Nemo. That should do 4m+

Ch4 Xmas Day looks good as well. With a low rating soap, it mens they can be more inventive with their schedule, wheras ITV is just predictable.

Ain't Finding Nemo been on BBC1 a couple of times ?

^ EE might've got a similar share against Emmerdale but would probably have had fewer viewers. Why was there yet another hour long Emmerdale and extra Corrie last night anyway? I know Emmerdale is usually on for an hour on Thursdays but ITV are just being awkward with this scheduling.

Mel Giedroyc, who has a role in the programme, confirmed this morning on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show that it’ll air on Sunday 20th December on ITV.

The problem is, sadly it does not matter how good or bad EE gets, the damage was done under Kirkwood/Newman and the viewers who left have not returned. DTC is now aiming the show rightly or wrongly at a different audience, the all important 16-35 demo, which would be important if the BBC were a Commercial network in the States. EE will bounce back to near normal levels but the hey days of this genre has gone and is not coming back, which is a good thing. We just have to convince the networks and particularly itv of this!

It has. Finding Nemo isn't a premiere.

Christmas Day 2007 was when it premiered on BBC1.

Thought so. That will be 8-10.30pm I reckon.

ITV will not ever be convinced of this as they cant fill the soap slots with anything else.
Also if EE drops further/fails it will lead all the soaps down.

I think CS from next week starts to air one episode per evening it airs, except Friday because of IAC, so I suppose we can let itv for this one as there was a valid reason this time.

ITV Press Centre has Jekyll & Hyde down for 6.30pm that night, so it looks like Sound of Music will be 7.30-10pm.

Jekyll is also down for 6.30pm not 7pm on the 27th. Also in the unplaced section in week 52 is something called "BAFTA Celebrates Downton Abbey" so expect that on either Monday 21st, Tuesday 22nd or Xmas Eve.

In that case I think the BBC and EE are doing the viewers a favour and should be congratulated. I am being serious and not sarcastic in case you were wondering.

It does make me laugh that they are always accusing the BBC of being aggressive and stepping on their toes though when they engineer soap clashes at an alarming frequency.

I know but it isn't fair on itv (bless) and as their best buddy and new best friend the Rt Hon John Whittingdale, OBE, member of Parliament for Maldon and Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport implies, they should not be hurting itv and producing commercially viable shows that itv could do, even though itv don't, can't, can not be bothered or have the imagination to do so.

So perhaps the BBC should ask the Rt Hon John Whittingdale and itv what they would like to see in the BBC Schedule and where they would like them to slot the shows. The Corporation should also ask them what they would like them to do with their most successful programmes? Bin them or make them for itv?

If EE is struggling against ITV factual then the soap clashes aren't the issue.

Spot on! Only so many times you can blame scheduling, sometimes it's the show.

In the unplaced section of the ITV Press Centre is now a one off called The Nation's Favourite Disney Song. It's one hour long. Wonder if that's what is planned for the 5.15pm slot on Christmas Day?
