BBC1 like these overruns as they enhance the ratings. The 8.30pm and 9pm 5 minute periods will be inflated as you effectively have the audiences for two shows watching - the show supposed to be starting and the show still running. It won't be quite as good as usual tonight as Dickensian isn't as big as the shows normally involved (it always works a treat with SPOTY/Apprentice and ITV did it and got a big peak with X Factor/Downton a couple of years ago) but certainly Dickensian will get a nice enhanced rating, either full slot (due to the EE overrun) or tapechecked (due to Sherlock viewers tuning in at 9pm). It's a smart thing to do really, albeit annoying for those with PVRs that don't adjust for it.

I think this is good news for horse racing. C4's coverage went massively downhill when IGM took over. Highflyer should never have lost the contract.”

Wonder if Highflyer will go for it again,be nice to see it going back to Yorkshire.
Daily Mail saying ITV will show up to 40 days a year.

Horse Racing is the ideal sport for commercial TV as well as the races only last a couple of minutes meaning you can show ad breaks at the normal frequency.

Unlike Motor Racing which lasts hours and which Channel 4 are apparently going to be showing ad free.

Seems to be a lot of racing fans happy its going back to ITV.Agree its a better move for ITV than F1, be interesting to see how long C4 stay with F1 and if they can make any money from it.

That's why it's a surprise. Channel 4 were talking about having Formula 1 and horse racing. Unexpected news I'd say.

Better for ITV and the sport too for The Derby and Grand National on a big channel.

Indeed. Had ITV kept the CL then they wouldn't of been interested.
The money was still in their sports budget, they didn't want MOTD so racing was ideal.

Corrie is number one on the all important overnights though... You know for the advertisers that ITV rely on.

All that matters, is EE was the most watched soap of the 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s so far

I'm finding tonight's Sherlock a chore to get through, its not gripping me as much as series 2.

Not sure - at some point the numbers wouldn't have added up financially.

It was always one or the other in my view, once they'd got the F1 there was no real need to have the racing given that the F1 will bring higher audiences for Channel 4.

Well I am an occasional watcher and in parts it was very good.
Others parts were typical soap crass.
Overall I would say give it a chance.
