Fantastic rating there for Eastenders

Was a silly idea having MBB on at half past ten. Far too late.

Kudos to EE.

Best rating since the 23rd February.

The scheduling probably knocked a million off it, but even so, Mrs Brown's Boys is going downhill fast. They can probably still turn it around if they whip out a new series in the next ~14 months, to make viewers realise that they are actually still making new episodes, but I do increasingly agree with whoever said the other day that the disappointing film has dented the show's brand.

They should split EE on Christmas Day like they used to.

The World's Strongest Man 2015 final brought a sizeable 1.53m (6.2%) to Channel 5 at 7pm.

Later at 9pm, A Good Day to Die Hard premiered to an audience of 1.49m (6.5%) on C4.

Is Sherlock confirmed as 8.4m average?

Good if so, although still 0.8m down I think on the last NYD episode.

Creditable for the stupidly scheduled MBB. Only 0.8m down on Xmas Day. Would it have beaten 6m scheduled midweek. Hm, not so sure this Christmas.

Right. Would be great to have a timeshift update! See how things REALLY rated this xmas!

I think that could happen next year

Indeed. A strong storyline with a cliffhanger ending to Part One works very well (2007's Christmas Day episodes with the Stacey and Max affair reveal worked well in this respect too).

I imagine they will. They only put it as one to ensure it didn't clash with itv soaps and was a strong alternative to Downton. No need to worry about that next year.

Exact same night as Fox in the US? I doubt that very much.

Thanks for typing this list up though.

Too much of a good thing comes to mind.

So I guess we can say there are still 8.29 million viewers willing to sit down to watch a non-live EE on the day of broadcast. Its a question of trying to keep as many of them as possible. Should add another million? or so on catch up and might well be the biggest audience of 2016 already.

Not sure what to make of the MBB number. Decent given the timeslot I guess but perhaps the novelty is starting to wane a bit. Looking forward to the live episode though.

Re Kwynne42 list, does that mean that the BBC aren't picking up Ripper Street this time?

Well done EastEnders. Can they keep up this bounce?

Daily Mail pleased with Sherlock-5 star rating!

If the numbers aren't tape checked then presumably the 5.6m for MBB includes the end of Sherlock?

Well this year you have BDO, Snooker Worlds and The Olympics. Nothing is disappearing imminently is it.

Whenever I watch Mrs Brown's Boys, it feels like I'm watching the same episode with the same jokes on a loop.

Fantastic for Eastenders.

Disappointing for MBB, but it could have easily got 6.5m on the 30th.

A couple more from me then I have to dash...

BBC2's most watched was University Challenge, pulling in 2.63m (10.6%) at 8pm.

The standout multichannel performance was ITV2's latest Skyfall repeat managing 1.02m (4.3%).

It's getting tired. That's the problem not the repeats. Although not great at least the film was a bit different. Why the Beeb buried it on NYE is anyone's guess. On RTE it premiered on Xmas Night.
