Won't be that high. High 3's is my guess.

Poor for Ninja Warrior

An average evening for BBC One. I take it the musical special didn't do too well

I caught a little bit of it before catching up with And Then There Were None. It looked ok, if you liked that sort of thing, but for me felt more like a luvvies event

I guess with it being so close to Christmas/New Year they worry about it getting a bit lost amongst everything else. It stands out more next week.

Ouch for Ninja Warrior especially as they had no real opposition last night in regards entertainment shows. Very poor for January.Next week Pointless Celebrities and The Voice will be back. They'll be hoping it doesn't fall further to "Splash" levels.
The first series was clearly boosted by having a BGT lead out and being against the already axed Atlantis on BBC ONE.

I think they'd be happy enough with Splash levels for a cheaper show. It's be a big improvement on Stars in Their Eyes. Plus it'll probably have to move elsewhere for its next series anyway with The Voice arriving next year.

The last series went against Pointless Celebs every week so I don't think they'll be worried about that. Iron Man 3 was probably more of a threat. The schedule was Pointless Celebs at 6.55 and Atlantis at 7.45. Ninja ran 7 till 8 so only overlapped with Atlantis for 15 mins. The BGT lead out most likely boosted it more. They'll be worried about The Voice but other than next week it only seems to be overlapping for 15 mins this year.

I'd be more worried about tonight if I were them.

Tonight it has competition from Countryfile on BBC One. The differing audience demo might help it get the same numbers as Saturday, although they are certainly nothing that can be spun into a positive.

I dont think it is that much less than last year. Once HD is added we will know for certain . What was NW highest rating last year?

I don't know if these are overnights or not, but Wiki says these are the ratings last year:

Heat 1- 3.32m
Heat 2- 3.22m
Heat 3- 3.93m
Heat 4- 4.25m
Heat 5- 3.70m
Semi 1- 4.05m
Semi 2- 3.58m
Final- 4.08m

Fluctuating between 14-16th in ITV weekly rank.

It's January not April! A Saturday night with zero opposition. Even Splash managed 5m in similar circumstances

A blockbuster movie premiere doing 4.3m (and a young skewing 4.3m I imagine) is hardly "zero competition".

Well if they are correct then once HD is added then the ratings should be similar

Those ratings from wikipedia are incorrect. Yesterday's rating for Ninja Warrior looks like it will be lower than every episode from series one (inc +1):

Ep 1 - 3.98m (21.6%)
Ep 2 - 3.72m (20.5%)
Ep 3- 4.57m (25.2%)
Ep 4 - 4.85m (25.4%)
Ep 5 - 4.31m (24.8%)
Ep 6 - 4.67m (27.4%)
Ep 7 - 3.96m (24.3%)
Ep 8 - 3.99m (21.4%)

Iron Man 3 is weaker competition than the Pointless/Voice combo which it will start facing next week, which will drag it down another 0.5m-1.0m. Looks like ITV has started the year just as they have done in 2015. With Beowulf flopping tonight too, it's going to be a long Q1 for ITV with low or underwhelming rating 7pm shows starting off each night on the weekend. IF Endeavour is below 5m (inc +1) tonight, a mark it has never fallen below before, I think it will be a sign that we are going to continue seeing lots of ITV returning shows being down y-o-y and new shows struggling to get sampled, as we saw in 2015.

Countryfile is technically a current affairs programme and as so is the most-watched current affairs programme on British television.

It night just scrape past the episode two mark of 3.7m, if it's lucky. It didn't exactly perform brilliantly with a Britain's Got Talent lead out looking at that list so people couldn't and shouldn't have been expecting anything more from it.

What else could they do? I guess they could have put Celebrity Chase on against Pointless but then what? They might have just sacrificed the Harry Potter films (eight films, seven weekends before Takeaway, doubled the Deathly Hallows up in the 'final' weekend) this quarter safe in the knowledge they would have The Voice next year but they don't have the rights.

I hope Beowulf shocks everyone with a storming rating tonight but I'm not holding my breath. People can't say ITV aren't trying with quality television... specifically Sunday's... but equally people aren't giving it a go either.

Ninja Warrior UK looks like it rated roughly in line with what it got before.

I don't get why ITV decided to break a winning formula with NW + BGT in the Spring which allowed them to easily dominate primetime. It seemed like they'd finally found something which really worked and in my opinion if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Yes keeping it may have left them with an emptier Q1 again, but I really think they could have come up with something better than damn Stars in their Eyes.

The problem with Beowulf is its just not very good. Its ok and looks good but like Atlantis does not seem to have any substance to it - cant see it doing much ratings wise.

BARB now publish +7 day and +28 day consolidated ratings. I believe they published some longer-term data but it didn't appreciably change the +28 day figures.

I have a feeling War and Peace will be a very expensive flop for the BBC. Though Andrew Davies has made a big deal out of cutting it down to fit six episodes, it still has the reputation of being long and boring. My guess is it will start with a 4m approx. figure tonight (beaten by Endeavour), falling to the high 2s by week 2 and the low 2s by the end of its six episodes.

The overnights excluding +1 were :

11th April : 3.68m/20.1%
18th April : 3.54m/19.6%
25th April : 4.46m/24.5%
2nd May : 4.69m/24.6%
9th May : 4.16m/23.9%
16th May : 4.53m/26.6%
23rd May : 3.9m/23.9%
30th May : 3.8m/20.4%
