An odd comment given your ongoing and passionate defence of The X Factor, a show which has regularly and blatantly manipulated and treated its audience with contempt. I assume the on-going slide in its ratings is for the exact same reason as suggested above for Doctor Who?

The X Factor was decent tonight; Doctor Who was excellent. Strictly? It had an off week for me but one episode doesn't usually affect a run and nor should it.

Would it the throwing the cat among the pigeons, here, now, 4.15am, to suggest Doctor Who is a kids show, has always been a kids show. And that is what makes it good.

It's not really a coup when she doing a one-hour special on BBC One. I wouldn't be surprised to see her on X Factor though, since she's a fan of the show.

DW was terrible, the worst episode in a series that has been awful so far.
Moffat must have his focus elsewhere because his work for Dr Who has been brilliant in the past.

Ratings are a statistic that can be bent in any direction, depending on personal interest. They are used to serve anyones "best interest".

Opinions vary, and in the end thats all you can say about them. Its nothing to do with majority or consensus...since those who engage on internet sites are a minority in the first place!

People are now beginning to write News at Ten's obituary - David Stephenson in today's Express:

''The former political editor of ITN has reduced this half-hour bulletin to the equivalent of a chat down the pub with your mate...together with a casual style we now have
Bradby's opinion. Sorry, but who cares ? ITV you have completely ruined your news.''

Yes ITV have little commitment to serious news, the News at when is a joke, no one knows if it's on at en or not. The BBC have established an News bulletin that is authoritative and trusted, and people switch over to watch.

ITV do not learn from cheque book mistakes, Bleakley, Chiles, Reid, they do not transfer well, now they think Peston will be their saviour, it's not going to work, all ITV does is boost these stars pension funds, the celebrity knows that , and it's the kiss of death to their careers.

Disagree, I can't see where at all it was terrible, reference to the 50th special reference to current world issues, suspense, effects, characters we care about, twists, an excellent episode.

Family show, where parents and children can watch together.

I think SCD will be similar, peak higher, XF will be lower, maybe a lot lower if negative headlines hit viewers.

(Dr Who)

I think the problem is that it is now on too late in the evening to qualify as a family show.
At the same time the writing has become immature and childlike, such that adults may struggle to connect with it.

I dont really care what its called as I enjoy it. I dont see why people get so hungup on labels. Last nights ep was very good if a little predictable in places and the series has been no way as bad as some are making out either.
People jumping on bandwagons methinks.

Ouch. The Halloween effect?

Genuinely think X Factor will be below 6m inc +1.

Great rating. Interesting that average and peak were much closer than normal. Audiences not as high later in the evening due to Halloween parties?

Very good for Strictly only slight down on last year.

A shame for Doctor Who as it was a good episode.

Dr Who beginning to look like a mortally wounded animal in the schedule. That's an abysmal retention from SCD.
