It's also like a Game of Thrones type of thing, which takes itself quite seriously, but a tamer version in the belief that this will be enough to make it suitable for children.
I don't think making something 'harmless' in itself turns something into a thing children want to watch.
ITV appear to really want to appeal to children, but seem to be trying to do so despite not having a clue what children actually like.
It's like setting yourself up as a renowned hairdressing salon without having a clue how to cut hair, or deciding to become a top chef without knowing how to cook.
It's like they think making shows for children is easy, after all how hard can it be? They're just kids, and they're grown adults.
But what they should be doing is getting somebody on board with experience in charge of a department who knows what they're doing and knows what it takes to make these types of shows,”

The problem with Beowulf is Tim Haines.
Created Walking With Dinosaurs which was groundbreaking. When he does things with people he doesn't seem to grasp who is/isn't good casting or if a story/script is working. So you can get flat characters, played flatly by so so actors.
ITV family fantasy drama is family fantasy drama by committee and by numbers. They want to be like Doctor Who but haven't actually looked at Doctor Who to see why it works.
A good actor with charisma as the lead, stories with things viewers can relate to, pacy adventures.
