Summary of Dickensian's ratings.
Code:
Episode Overnight/Share Official/Timeshift
Episode 1 (26 December 2015)	4.99m (24.9%) 6.52m (+1.53m)
Episode 2 (26 December 2015)	4.34m (20.9%) 5.75m (+1.41m)
Episode 3 (27 December 2015)	4.40m (22.4%) 5.39m (+0.99m)
Episode 4 (27 December 2015)	3.88m (18.8%) 4.93m (+1.05m)
Episode 5 (01 January 2016)	3.96m (16.2%)
Episode 6 (06 January 2016)	2.66m (11.6%)
I imagine the BBC will be very disappointed with those ratings. It was ambitious but just hasn't attracted the viewers.

Always seemed a concept that some luvvies would think was a great idea but was never going to have broad appeal. It needed to be a contained piece across Christmas holidays.

It probably would be better as a hour one off for Easter, Instead of 20 episodes of it.

I agree.

The BBC should have used the slots where Celeb Mastermind was placed just before Christmas. But even then pushing 20 episodes was always going to be a tough request for many viewers.

It's certainly in hard times

Gets an EE sandwich tonight, doesn't it? Wonder if that will pick it up a bit.

It probably will although it'll be limited by the Emmerdale clash. Next Wednesday will be ugly though with no EastEnders lead-in. As will the Friday episode in a couple of weeks. It isn't looking good.

Very good start for Midsomer, nicely up year on year after 2015's slightly underwhelming run. Big drop for Attenborough.

That would have worked much better.

Strange scheduling.

Too many episodes scheduled too erratically. Plus it doesn't look like it appeals to the masses.

It is either better suited to a BBC2 audience or was made in a way that it didn't attract a BBC1 audience.

A Jekyll and Hyde sized dud?

I agree BBC 2 where it would be easier to schedule. Mind you that audience would more likely baulk at what has been done to Dickens.

I do think that last year putting it up against Broadchurch was a way of burning off a series that was showing signs of decline. Maybe not in numbers yet but in quality which then impacts numbers. What happened through was show producers came back with stonking series. It was as though they got back to knowing what the audience of the show wanted. Silent Witness is around as long as the actress who plays Nikki wants to do it.

I think BBC1 put Silent Witness there hoping for the best knowing that it can get an audience. It went better than they hoped! It's one of the few series that worked on Fridays. Friday is where once popular shows usually go to die. It always did better on Monday/Tuesday so it's no surprise to see the ratings are up, plus it is a very good show.

Wow! Great rating.

Maybe the fact we're up to speed with Australia is making a bit of a difference?

I think the show could survive another cast change if Emilia Fox decides to quit but she enjoys doing it so it's not going to happen anytime soon.

Why doesnt it have broad appeal? Dickens/costume drama and a serial drama to boot - its not exactly niche is it?

Agreed, remember Emilia Fox took over from Amanda Burton who starred for the first 8 years.

It is an adaptable show, in 2014 I nearly gave up on it, there was a terrible feel to it. They had half the 'old team' still involved and the whole show just jarred. In 2015 they completely updated it, the writing was slicker, the pace and production much improved and the ratings ploughed ahead.

Exactly. How did unbastardised Dickens like Bleak House and Little Dorrit perform? Better than this awful mash-up, I expect.

I am dissapointed in the ratings for this but also what the episodes I have watched . I just didn't 'get' into it as I thought I would. I love Dickens stories, but this just didn't grab me.

I think the characters onlty work, when they are in their own set story, or slight adaption, but not something like this all mixed together.

And this cost quite a wack too, Like Beowulf which one will sink below 2m first, and which will be moved to a softer slot?

Well last year they started off the New Year with MM rpt's. Thankfully this year they've seen sense.

ITV Media has updated and for the second day running the first legs of the Capital One Cup topped the 'digital' charts (1.280m and 1.075m).

Big Brother has only been on air for 2 minutes and they are already in trouble with Ofcom.

Seems to be a catalogue of incidents with bad behaviour on this show.

BIB: I think that's a bit harsh/premature. It is certainly dropping, but if I recall in the end J&H was consolidating to less than 2m.
