I think you're right, TXF is a different beast and would certainly benefit from a year off, but ITV wouldn't be able to cope without it. Plus I'd year they've already got a Downton sized hole on Sundays so they really couldn't afford to lose TXF as well or the whole night could be a disaster, as well as Saturdays. Not a good situation. They've become too reliant on one show. Back in X Factor's early years it was a shorter show and just one part of a stronger Saturday night schedule, sitting alongside Saturday Night Takeaway, Millionaire etc. Now they've extended TXF episodes (and extended it to Sundays) and the whole of Saturday night is now basically long episodes of TXF. Great when the show was at its peak, hence why they kept extending it, but now it is on the slide it is a problem. In 2005 The X Factor ran for around 30 hours. Now it is closer to 50. They haven't really extended the number of episodes, but the running time of the episodes has expanded massively and now the show is declining it is a problem as they don't have anything to replace even some of those hours.

On another note entirely, ITV's new science show It's Not Rocket Science starts filming next week. I guess it'll be on in a few weeks time. Quite curious to see how it does as they haven't done anything like this for a while. Here's the description from Applause Store:”

Yes, if TXF were removed from this year, ITV's Saturday and Sunday would collapse. BBC1 would walk it. That is why the need to build up the Autumn schedule and start building new shows around TXF, so when it does go they are not stranded. At the moment its still the central show.

I would begin to shorten TXFs run time and push it to 7pm on both Saturday and Sun. Yes it will be dented by SCD, but better than putting another new show oppsite SCd to get crushed and killed on impact.

Sunday
7pm The X Factor
8pm New: The Durrells
9pm New: The Halycon
10pm ITV News

ITV should be launching new comedies. ventually Benidorm will completely run out of steam, and Birds will end, then they'll be comedy free. Or at least find another comedy drama.

Yes I'm interested to see how this does too. It feels like it could be ITV's version of QI. Also Rachel Riley and Ben Miller are different names to ITV that aren't usually associated with the channel. This is where it would be nice to see the channel using different hosts away from, Schofield, Mulhern, and Kay.

CBB all over my social media again tonight as one of the contestants appears to have been restrained by security following a row. After a slow start, it appears this series is starting to find its feet.

Well we now know where the Eastenders repeat is going.

That should do well for Watch but the question is will many people choose to watch EE with adverts on Watch

Will it hit ratings on BBC1?

I bet Crozier will wish he hadn't campaigned quite so vigorously against BBC One+1.

C5 definitely making a bit of progress at 10PM this year, despite poorer inheritance from CBB. Not unexpectedly so either, as when the schedules came out it was clear a lot of thought had gone into them. Hopefully 10,000 BC can keep that going when it launches next week.”

My Name is normally would have gone to 9pm but I suspect the ratings would have been the same if not lower. Secret Life of the Family should have been 8pm or 9pm, I think if it holds up and get renewed, it should be scheduled earlier.

Lip Sync Battle UK's retention will be interesting, if it can hold up, 5 can use to build a new night of comedy.

Question. Who would get the ad revenue and Subscription revenue? UKTV or BBC?

Not sure how I feel personally about advertising being sold around a BBC programme the same-day it was broadcast on the BBC. Feels wrong.

Well BBC programmes on S4C have had advertising around and in the middle for few years now

I agree, Uktv seem to be positioning Watch as a pseudo BBC channel taking on some of the Three talent too, can't see the big commercials being happy about this at all

from UKTV website

Now celebrating its 21st year at the forefront of digital television, UKTV - an independent commercial joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Scripps Networks Interactive, Inc. (SNI) - is proud to be the only British television broadcaster to be recognised by Best Companies.

Up until 2015, BBC had highlights rights + live rights to three matches – one mens semi (of their choice) + womens final + mens final (Eurosport also had full live rights to the whole tournament – ie including these three matches as well).

In recent years I think BBC just showed the three live matches and didn’t show any highlights (though they used to also show more extensive highlights a few years ago).

From this year, BBC no longer has any live rights – so the whole tournament is now exclusively live on Eurosport.

But BBC still has highlights rights – and it appears that, now that it has lost its live coverage, it is going to use those highlights rights.

Win win for all.

BBC get income from sale of show to UKTV then subsequent 50% share of UKTV's profits.

Commercial channels will have potentially 300k (assuming a 100k W audience) viewers to attract. Good for ITV2 and E4 etc. Can we assume a fair few of BBC Three EE viewers are those without PVRs?

Pay platforms retention/growth.

I hope Birds got decent rating last night. After a wobbly start, last night ep was a big improvement.

Last night's ratings: Death in Paradise lost around 700,000 from last week's premiere. Still top dog at 9pm with 6.09m (27.3%).

Last night's ratings: Stargazing Live continued to underwhelm for BBC Two, recording a series low 1.18m (5.3%).
