For someone who presides over an empire of manufactured artists, Cowell has, ironically, fallen head first into the classic trap that his protégés lurch into, i.e. craving credibility while not recognising his limitations. He can't face what he actually is, i.e. king of a conveyor belt of compliant and ultimately disposable faces for songs written by professional composers. Instead, he demanded a Brit Award for One Direction and talks endlessly about TXF generating 'artists', when all the contestants are a million miles away from that.
The music industry is awash with acts that have no identity and no integrity and Cowell is in part responsible for that. This week saw Adele make a massive splash with a song she clearly had a personal investment in, sung from the heart: she really is an artist, has opinions and wants to plough her own furrow - something denied to all Cowell's acts. No wonder she gets a huge response to just one song while people tire of the X Factor panto … |

Agree. I have already been accused of spreading lies and misinformation for stating that the show is manipulated by producers.

X Factor was doing better on Sunday until last week. X Factor keeps changing but doesn't really. Same set, same titles.
For all the talk is revamp there hasn't really been one. Like Doctor Who it has a dedicated audience and not anybody else. |

I still don't know. Reading between the lines in what even he said, you'd say he saw the writing was on the wall and bailed out before he was asked to. Nothing personal. Then again he did look chronically bored last year. Either way it was a bad thing to happen from XF's point of view - ironically the far longer presenter out of the two newbies is by far the weakest.

The danger of just saying that The Voice could replace X Factor is that it only airs for around half the number of hours of X Factor, and based on how the live shows normally do if they tried to extend it they'd probably end up with numbers no better than X Factor got last night by November. Then again, it doesn't seem to be on the same downward trajectory as X Factor so you never know. I doubt they'll get it though. |

With Downton Ending maybe Sundays on ITV will become X factor night.
Like how Dancing on Ice used to air on a Sunday e.g 6.30pm The X Factor 8.30pm Drama 9.30pm The X factor results |

Probably not until early next year. Both sides will probably want to see the early ratings of next year's run before making their final bids. I do think it'll stay with the BBC.

If it moves to ITV, I wonder if it'll be kept quiet until series five ends. Would be very awkward otherwise.
As for next year, X Factor would probably be better all on one night, but it would leave their Saturday schedule really empty. A tough call. |

Simon should probably have ignored the complainers and kept the show the exact same this year. Strictly has been the same dull format since the beginning and has worked. Viewers really don't like change. It's a shame as I've enjoyed this year's show (bar last Saturday's)more than other years.Cannot be denied that there have been a number of factors against XF this year mainly it's mess of a schedule with the rugby..
That's just never going to happen. |

So, In general, what do people think the main reason for the drop is?
Halloween? Grimmy and the poor panel? The SCC events? The Judges Houses new format or Mason Noise being put in after he was thrown off? People on here know that I watched the 2nd SCC live, but since then, I have only watched a few clips online from JH and last night (Im assuming a lot of people are watching clips online, the show live is just too draining IMO) I did give SCC a very hard time, but it seems that the figures were rising despite the very negative social media reaction to the SCC. But I think last weekend was the event that really put people off. Judges Houses should be exactly what it says. I don't know why they did it in the way it happened. Basically JH was just another instalment of SCC of people shouting in the audience. We saw like a tenth of singing, and the other nine-tenths were filled up with stories, people walking in slow motion, tears, audience cheering/booing and shouting, adverts, interviews with the judges and 10x too much time for decision making. "You have 10 seconds to name your final choice". And the Mason choice was not surprising but may have been another reason for the drop. That wasn't received very well online either. |

GOD!! That is truly, truly awful for The X Factor. The wheels have come off and its entering into Dancing on Ice territory now. I mean 5.6m is one of their worst ratings ever!
Last week they screwed up big style with those terrible live judges houses episodes. What will it do tonight? 6.5m? Even that seems like a stretch now. I think the main problem is that they try and change it every year and mess it up every time. Losing Dermot and Louis was a mistake IMO. Nick/Rita have added nothing and Olly/Caroline haven't worked either. As for Strictly - another great rating but I didn't really like last nights episode that much. Definitely worst of the series. I'm sure it will be back to normal next week and Blackpool Week will no doubt be another huge success. DW performed awfully. Not seen it yet but Capaldi has put a lot of casual viewers off. It's such a shame to see al these shows rating so badly. Pretty much everything is in terminal decline and I dread to think how low shows will be in another 5-years time. |

The problem with The X Factor last night was the contestants. They were all, for the most part, awful. They can make all the format changes they like but it's not going to work if the performances are diabolical.

I imagine it would be yeah. If they were to get it I wonder if they'd air it in Q1 or Q4? It'd probably be more useful for them in Q4 to be honest but that would mean a long gap between series.

It would have been at least 7.0m (inc. +1) if it didn't fall directly on halloween.

The BBC though clearly have had a word already about carrying on for two extra years and have said there is no more room to increase the offer. That would seem to be the end of negotiation as far as they are concerned. None of this appears to have been a formal bidding process so I guess there is no definite decision point. The Mirror will probably have a front page splash saying that its gone to Dave. |

Dunno why you're posting that here, Mr Hyland is a t--t who has never said a positive word about Simon's shows.
Can't argue with t**t though. Last edited by ian hyland : 01-11-2015 at 14:43. Reason: Profanity issues |
