OK, I'm going to stick my head out and bring out a discussion usually left for Sunday evening/Monday morning... I don't think Beowulf is that bad. It just isn't strong enough to make an impact in it's slot and, yes, the acting leaves something to be desired at times. But the plot was actually quite good in episode two, once the foundation stone episode was out of the way, and on paper it really should have potential. It is definitely more 'family friendly' than Jekyll and Hyde, which was simply in the wrong slot to begin with, but I think it deserves better than it's getting - especially when you look at other ratings across the board.

Rant over.

Still a good rating, but surely the setting can only be an audience puller for so long.

After yesterday's Top Gear v ITV motoring show 'clash' nonsense in The Guardian yesterday, they've gone one better today.

Quote:
“Channel 4 signs up Peep Show writer in return to homegrown drama

Buoyed by German spy hit Deutschland 83, the broadcaster commissions trio of UK dramas including Loaded, a rags to riches comedy scripted by Jon Brown”

Unbelievable journalism.

Explosive ep of CBB last night, although will people see through the fact it was obviously fake and most likely setup by the producers to "rock the house to the core"?

I still enjoyed it though.

So I make that roughly 4.63m excl+1 for Birds of a Feather

With HD included:

Death in Paradise - 6.09m
Birds of a Feather - 4.68m
Jericho - 2.71m
EastEnders - 6.49m (Dancc has the tape checked rating I think)
Emmerdale 1 - 6.53m
Emmerdale 2 - 6.17m
Dickensian - 2.41m

Not sure if the Emmerdale ratings are taped checked. Has Jericho gone up?! And great for Birds.

Edit - Jericho down around 200k from last week exc. +1.

No I think its down, so probably around 3m with +1, down from last weeks 3.2m

S with +1 BOAF should be around 4.9m.

Around 2.71m exc. +1 for Jericho if my maths is right from Mike Teevee's figures but that might go up slightly after tape-checking; I imagine the final quarter was dragged down by the ads before News at Ten. It launched with 2.96m excluding +1 so it's decline could have been worse.

Birds of a Feather up by around 0.8m, taking advantage of a lack of EastEnders. That's a strong rating for it.

4.7m for BOAF is very good. Didn't expect it to get more than the low 4s.

Edit- Oh that wasn't with +1 either, close to 5m?

Yes I was expecting it to be just over 2m excl+1. But there is still time, 6 episodes left.

I fell asleep during Jericho last night. Shame, I rather liked ep1.

Beginning to think ITV put it on Thursday against DIP for a reason...

I'm slightly biased towards Birds as I really like it. Should be 4.9-5m including +1.

Last night saw its highest overnight since March 2014.

It seems that like those who watched it quite liked it which results in the question being asked again - why that slot? Even Friday's would have been better, against a weaker Shetland and the FA Cup. Though going by Robbie's post maybe the drop off will start now!

Birds of a Feather pulled in 4.2m (18.2%); +1: 142k (0.6%) for the corresponding episode last year so a definite improvement there. Though it was against Watchdog (3.9m) rather than Room 101 suffering from being out of it's recognised slot and with a Dickensian lead in.

Saying that I feel this is the first series since the relaunch where it feels like it's really hitting it stride. I keep flashing back to the episode where Sharon was the manager of the school kitchen and thinking 'is this the same show?' It's more focused around the three women with the crime scene lurking in the back ground; it's working far better now. I hope it continues.

Presumably Watch take over the repeat fees paid to EE actors too. From memory the cast got 60% of the original showing's fee for the omnibus (that was an interview in the press many years ago, mind).

Thanks Dancc.

That's a surprise for Death In Paradise but I have a feeling the low rating 8.30pm programme could have played a part. Still a large drop when programmes around it weren't much higher than last week. Great rating for Birds Of A Feather.

BBC2 have bought a programme!!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/lat...e-v-oj-simpson

Quote:
“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story coming to BBC Two next month

The story behind one of the most famous court cases of all time is at the heart of a new 10 part drama, The People v. O.J. Simpson, acquired by BBC Two, starting next month.

The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story is a limited series that takes audiences inside the OJ Simpson trial with a riveting look at the legal teams battling to convict or acquit the American football legend of double homicide. Based on the book The Run Of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, the series explores the chaotic, behind-the-scenes dealings and manoeuvring on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution over-confidence, defence shrewdness, and the Los Angeles Police Department’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.

The stellar cast includes Cuba Gooding Jr as O.J. Simpson, John Travolta as defence attorney Robert Shapiro, David Schwimmer as defence attorney Robert Kardashian, Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark, Courtney B Vance as defence attorney Johnnie Cochran, and Bruce Greenwood as Los Angeles County District Attorney Gil Garcetti.

Kim Shillinglaw, Controller of BBC Two and BBC Four, says: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be bringing this gripping, highly distinctive series to BBC Two. With an outstanding cast and a top-rate creative team, it is just the kind of grown-up, contemporary drama I want to see on the channel.”

Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, adds: “I am so excited for BBC viewers to see this series. The People v. O.J. Simpson is a fascinating and totally absorbing dramatisation of a case seared into the public consciousness. It is a case that you might think you know all about - but believe me, you don't know the half of it…”

Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning producer and Emmy Award-winning director Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, The Normal Heart) directed the first episode and serves as executive producer along with Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Scott Alexander, Larry Karaszewski and Brad Falchuk. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story is written by Golden Globe-winning producers Alexander and Karaszewski (Big Eyes, The People v Larry Flynt).

The limited series is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions. The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story is distributed by 20th Century Fox Television Distribution.”

So did I, but last night's ep was a bit slow.

Surely they wouldn't put a drama costing £8million just on Thursday to die because its not that good? That would still be a waste surely?
