Surely solid but unspectacular ratings for their last series of The Voice is the best possible result for BBC

The Beowulf repeat down quite a lot on last week.

Surely with TVUK doing fairly low numbers, similar to its secobd series, then its going to be down to low 5m for the Battle Rounds opposite Takeaway.

Do you no think this is now looking like a mistake by ITV buying this format? I hate to think how low the LIVE shows will be.

Any chance the BBC might be happy for TVUK to nose dive before heading to ITV?

I think they are contractually obliged to air Football League Tonight at 9pm, so that's not going to happen.

Yes that's very poor for the Beowulf repeat. I wonder if perhaps some of last week's viewers switched to the main Sunday screening? Would explain the better than expected retention it saw.

Decent for The Gossip. Will have been over 500k with +1 which is about where it was last year for most episodes.

No, because they still have to fill next years slot with something. And with The Getaway Car looking like it might stink out the slot its in, this will be not its successor.

I imagine the BBC are pi***ed off that throwaway clip show Now You See It last year got 5m+, and a new show destined to be a successor of TVUK is wallowing around 4m and likely to drop.

Compared to last year this thread is very quite now TVUK is weaker.

Probably a few factors going on with The Voice but I must admit I thought it would be more or less maintaining its standard to last year- but the drop is approaching significant and the early verdict unpromising. Maybe Sir Toms loss and the way it was done has alienated the BBC audience a touch and George and Paloma are very different characters and aren't replacing his style in any way. If it goes on its hard to see ITV sticking with any of the current coaches. They need to attract a younger demo I guess and one thing that will be fascinating is comparing the audience breakdown from BBC to ITV when it does move. They can spend 6 months making a fuss over coach choices though and expect many rumours in the press during that build up-including ex XF related names. A revamp will bring curiosity but you suspect it has hit the ground running.

Ninja Warrior has found a niche but Getaway Car wasn't ever going to be big enough to be a TVUK replacement or even part replacement on that performance. That's a brittle looking rating it has to be said.

Love to be a fly on the wall within the BBC hierarchy re TVUK. From one angle TVUK has been a huge success given the toxic nature of its acquirement-it could have been a total disaster but its flown-possibly the highest it will ever get-and at the BBC. If these two ratings are an indicator though it may be that they have (whatever the true story) got out at just the right time. Licence Fee outlay for an expensive bought in format on the wane is an even worse scenario.

No lower than CBB's on C5. It's got a right slagging from Kevin O'Sullivan.

What does Dave normally get at that time on a Saturday?

1 million people who don't care about all the fluff around the show but just want to watch a fighter fight. Would be great for more FTA big fights. I'm sure itv could offer the fighters a decent amount. They pay millions to some talent to why not take a risk at getting a big male market which is always better for advertising rates?

Is that Daves record rating? Or is the red dwarf reboot on dave?

Not sure fundamental proof of how inept they are at managing entertainment shows at times is something to be bouncing with joy about. I watched a tiny bit of The Voice last night and it was obvious immediately that the Beeb have monumentally mismanaged that programme. They couldn't have made it less appealing if they tried.

ITV have inherited a mess for sure but they have a clearer understanding of how to make these shows work and will have every chance of fixing it by getting the right talent on board. And crucially it will be less self indulgent than it on the BBC, with the focus on the talent. They won't have time for all that pointless filler you get on the BBC version.

So all in all, it will have a terrific chance of getting back on track. Meanwhile the BBC will be relying on their commissioners to find a viable replacement, and their overall track record in entertainment is very poor.

Remind me how this is something to be privately jolly well pleased about from BBC1's perspective again ? Because I'm struggling.

Imagine the conversation in ITV's bunker, having bought the makers of The Voice they coughed up more than the BBC were prepared to pay for a programme in need of throat lozenges.

Might have affected some second unit filming, if any, but Hungary was used for the Paris locations.

Way too much chit chat and VT's on TVUK this year. I don't have a problem with the judges. Not surprised it's dropped a bit.

Red Dwarf holds the record I think with just over 2m.

A massive improvement for ITV on Saturday. Ninja Warrior UK up 1.8m on SITE.

Well there is 2 million more people watching ITV at 7pm so that could be why The Voice is 2 million lower

How 6.37m can be described as poor I don't know and it held on to all of last week's audience which is a good thing.

Getaway car though not brilliant beat everything on itv without including +1 and was the BBC's third most watched show of the day so not quite the flop that people are describing, it was never going to get massive numbers so I don't know why it's being shot down.

The Getaway Car started off ok for a new show, it'll need a watercooler moment though to get everyone talking about it and see a substantial rise in viewers. If there's nothing bold and big happening within the show to get lots of people talking, then I think the show will remain where it is if the initial viewership enjoyed it or it will just drop down the ratings. I think the ITV driving format will do better as it has more of a hook for casual viewers using celebrities.

The Voice not faring too well so far. Casualty doing good though. It usually performs well in January as it doesn't face much in the way of competition and has stronger lead ins. If I were the BBC, I would showcase the show's best storylines and stunts in this period to try and keep as many viewers as possible before it starts suffering stronger competition and has lesser lead ins.

ITV had a very good night. Channel 4 had a quiet night.

Last week got 7.3m - this week 6.4m. That's not really holding onto all of its audience.

a) 7.12m is not the same as 6.37m.
b) it's probably lower than 2013, the series which rated notoriously awfully.
c) It's more than 2m down YOY.

I know this has been mentioned previously but ITV could do a lot worse than approach Professor Green for The Voice. I think Will Young would be a good choice (I know he has had discussions regarding the show in the past), alongside Lilly Allen. Neither have sold vast amounts recently but they have a personality for this show. Possibly Mark Ronson in the last chair?
