That's a very good point. I think things like Vera and Endeavour would be more use to ITV on spring and summer Sundays, rather than in Winter, and having Voice 7 to 9pm on Winter Sundays would save the dramas for later in 2017.
I still don't think Voice will do much for ITV, though!”
I think you're probably right that Takeaway doesn't have quite the same clamour. It was getting very tired in 2009 when they rested it. The 2013 revival was a huge success but the gloss has come off a little bit since then, although I think it's still in much better shape than it was in 2009. If they wanted to do something new I'm pretty sure ITV would accommodate it though. I'm fairly sure ITV would have rathered they had spent time in 2015 filming a new entertainment show rather than a one off royal documentary (which probably took nearly as much time, they did a lot of filming) but that was what they did because they wanted to.
Plus ITV are hardly going to turn away an entertainment show doing 6 million overnights even if it is down a bit (although even in its heyday it never did more than 7 or 8 million anyway). But I think Takeaway is still running as much as anything else because Ant & Dec love doing it. They even took it on tour in 2014. I think they love doing all their current shows. Plus neither BGT nor I'm A Celebrity are really much of a time commitment. IAC is only a few weeks of the year (I think they go out to Australia a couple of weeks before the series starts but that's it) whilst BGT is around 12 days of auditions plus a few days of filming intros, trailers and doing voiceovers and one stripped week of live shows. Takeaway is presumably by far the most time consuming of the three so if they didn't like doing it I suspect they'd drop it quite quickly. ITV wouldn't much like it but I suspect they'd put up with it for the sake of keeping them on the other, more valuable shows.
I agree about Vera and Endeavour. They do normally play in the Spring and I imagine they'll be there again next year. I suspect they've been drafted in after how poorly last year's Winter Sundays did with entertainment and then a drama at 9pm. The two hour detective shows were probably their best bet to hold up against Call The Midwife. I suspect if they had The Voice this year that would be running 7pm-9pm (or maybe a 7.30pm start) with Jericho at 9pm (in the slot I suspect it was originally intended for before they got cold feet and went for the 2 hour dramas).
I hadn't considered The Voice for Sundays but it does seem likely. The Saturday schedule works reasonably well as it is and will only do better without The Voice against it. Next year could be The Voice running up to 9pm with a drama on afterwards. Probably a new one as I can't see them running the 2 hour dramas 9pm-11pm.
