Series 1 certainly didn't have the same structure as later series. People like the Blind Auditions then disappear.

Will it do as well on ITV? Probably. But what if it doesn't?

The BBC entertainment department will really be under pressure now to find a megahit, something they failed to do since Strictly.

Yes, I think if you put in Wooden acting, Crossroads comes up.

Characters disappear for a year behind a fridge, or have a year long pregnancy, or the flimsy MDF sets wobble.

Maybe by 2017 the BBC will have a revised royal charter which will forbid them from the entertainment genre.......problem solved

Do you think we should do another mass? A bit of Father Ted there.

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works but that series average for series 4 is WRONG!

The correct series average is 8.48m - meaning cylon6 is right about series 1 been the most watched based on series average.

Now back to the scheduled discussion!

Here's a question for you and everybody in this thread. What should BBC1 do in 2017 to replace The Voice?

Saturday night possibilities.

The Generation game, - Miranda Heart/ David Walliams/ Patrick Kielty.
Michael McIntyre House party.
Graham Nortons search for a West End star. Eurovision star.
Fame Academy.
It's a knockout. Jeux Sans Frontières

Just please the poster who calls me Samuel now that is wrong and rude.

Now that's a great format!

Mary Berry, Mary Christmas, and Mary Poppins with three celebrities fathers. All in a One Show format, with a bit of Countryfile, and some baking in it.

The Generation Game with David Walliams is what I'd try as well as a McIntyre show.

BBC1 will need DW to prop up Saturdays , a new big name companion would help. Say a singer like Billie Piper in 2095 which the younger viewers can relate to. AKA Ellie Goulding.”

I definitely agree that they need to move DW now to January from next series to strengthen the Winter schedule and launch a new show alongside it.

Ideal opportunity DW -at 7 pm in January with the generation game. Fill winter with Class the DW spin off, or a lottery game show.

Yes , both could work, the Gen game needs a revival it pulled in millions before, just needs a great host, House party, copied by Ant and Dec clearly could work with a good comic host.

Cool.

So to me, that supports even further the suggestion that the programme is pretty much flat year-on-year (if the average has dropped 0.06m over 4 years rather than increased by 0.01m).

Radio times says TVUK deal not fine with ITV as yet.

An ITV spokesperson declined to comment, but RadioTimes.com understands that while a final deal is yet to be agreed, there has been no change in the commercial broadcaster's interest in acquiring the show if it were to become available.

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2015-...t-to-seal-deal

BBC confirms The Voice UK has been "poached" - but ITV is yet to seal deal
The Corporation has given up on efforts to keep the talent show, saying it would not pay an "inflated price" in a bidding war

Radio times more trustworthy than The Mirror.

On that basis, I wholeheartedly concur it peaked in series 1 on a series average basis.

Although cylon6 was not saying series 1 was the most watched series based on series average; he was actually was saying it peaked in series 1 on an individual episode basis. We can now say it did on both individual episode and series average basis.

Sorry to spanner your spanner.

One thing I would say is that the point about people watching auditions but not watching the live shows has spread from The Voice to The X Factor if last year and this year so far is to go by.

No idea why ITV are wasting money on The Voice, to be honest.

Probably will though. Remember the drawn out Family Guy negotiations earlier this year?

What were the new LE programmes they announced earlier in the year? There was one about driving or something I think.

It does seem to have done, albeit to a lesser extent. People still watched the 6 Chair Challenge this year though so I'm not sure what to blame.

They've bought it because it's a big hit and they want it. It isn't a particularly risky move actually. There's a good chance that they wind up with a big hit show. X Factor is on the decline and could do with a rest anyway. And if the thing completely dies on its arse they can scrap it, but even then it will have got rid of a major headache for them on Q1 Saturdays.

My guess is that it dips a bit but still does well. In some ways it seems a more natural fit for ITV (it is quite a commercial show) but the BBC have done well with it over the years and I'm fairly sure that not all of the audience will follow it. But I can very much see why they've done it.

The only real risk is that it could damage their production company. I'm not sure how likely that is or to what extent it would happen though.

Well it leaves BBC One with a large hole in Quarter One of 2017 to deal with. If I was them I'd see if I could commission something up quickly which could air in Quarter One of 2016 and push The Voice UK opposite Britain's Got Talent (depending whether the judges schedules allow this to happen). The Voice would hold up better than most shows against Talent yet would be hurt at the same time and a show would be given the easier Quarter to try and establish itself. The question is what?

I'd lean towards Score's suggestion of working The Voice UK and The X Factor in rotation if ITV do sign up to it, keeping both formats fresh to an extent.

Gogglebox had a strong night for Channel 4. TFI hasn't really taken off in, what to me, is too early a slot for it. Have I Got News For You looks low; is it showing signs of age? Citizen Khan isn't a bad performer considering the opposition - especially compared to The Kennedys! Mind you, Coronation Street recorded an awful figure in the 8.30pm slot and was surely by EastEnders including the same day repeats. I dread to think how low they'll fall opposite Children in Need next week.

Ice Road Truckers didn't perform with a low figure - I thought it tended to pull in greater figures than that? Though I guess the demos would be good; if I was Channel 5 I would look to air it on Sunday's at 8pm away from Top Gear. Saying that at least the channel was consistent across the evening.

Seemingly BBC Two didn't exist for Digital Spy yesterday.

I'd say its highly unlikely they could re-schedule everything at this stage. I think the smartest move would be to pair up their best existing prospect with The Voice in January, if possible. Push The Voice earlier into the 7pm hour, and try to give something else a launchpad at 8pm.

The only currently commissioned prospect I can recall would be the new 'Getaway Car' show with Dermot O'Leary and The Stig. Sounds like it could be great or terrible - but it's had a 12 episode commitment following a pilot, so its a pretty significant play.

It's been fading a little for the past couple of years - but its really started to drop more sharply this time around. The other thing about HIGNFY is they seem absolutely wedded to airing it at 9pm, with a new comedy behind it. It never seems to work and I think they'd be well advised to consider other slots - perhaps the problematic 8.30 slot, where it could probably hold its own against Corrie.

Different schedule on ITV next Friday - 7pm Corrie and 7:30pm England v Spain friendly. The football could cause some damage to Children In Need's figure, but Corrie could go either way due to the early slot.
