They've bought it because it's a big hit and they want it. It isn't a particularly risky move actually. There's a good chance that they wind up with a big hit show. X Factor is on the decline and could do with a rest anyway. And if the thing completely dies on its arse they can scrap it, but even then it will have got rid of a major headache for them on Q1 Saturdays.
My guess is that it dips a bit but still does well. In some ways it seems a more natural fit for ITV (it is quite a commercial show) but the BBC have done well with it over the years and I'm fairly sure that not all of the audience will follow it. But I can very much see why they've done it.
The only real risk is that it could damage their production company. I'm not sure how likely that is or to what extent it would happen though.”

The Voice would hold up better than most shows against Talent yet would be hurt at the same time and a show would be given the easier Quarter to try and establish itself. The question is what?
I'd lean towards Score's suggestion of working The Voice UK and The X Factor in rotation if ITV do sign up to it, keeping both formats fresh to an extent.
Gogglebox had a strong night for Channel 4. TFI hasn't really taken off in, what to me, is too early a slot for it. Have I Got News For You looks low; is it showing signs of age? Citizen Khan isn't a bad performer considering the opposition - especially compared to The Kennedys! Mind you, Coronation Street recorded an awful figure in the 8.30pm slot and was surely by EastEnders including the same day repeats. I dread to think how low they'll fall opposite Children in Need next week.
Ice Road Truckers didn't perform with a low figure - I thought it tended to pull in greater figures than that? Though I guess the demos would be good; if I was Channel 5 I would look to air it on Sunday's at 8pm away from Top Gear. Saying that at least the channel was consistent across the evening.
Seemingly BBC Two didn't exist for Digital Spy yesterday.”

TBH I think this is a massive opportunity, the BBC has now got 12 million to invest in LE Weekend shows. TVUK was good but is five years old now and I think ITV may have purchased it at the wrong time, IE I sight as evidence, Parkinson and Jonathon Ross, both purchased, both too late.
The BBC looked to its past for SCD looking at Come Dancing and then making it a watchable show again.
The Generation Game and House Party formats could be used, no one, including silly MPs could say the BBC is using formats from commercial TV, Albeit , there are copies, like Ant and Dec.
I would test formats out the spring of 2016, limited run of these to test the formats for January 2017.
ITV may be panic buying with the XF dying, they do not need two Singing contests, so clearly they know XF has had its day now. Its terminal. .
ITV tend to make big errors on cheque book purchases, Bleakley and Chiles, Suzanne Reid, recently Peston, they do not transplant that well, Everyone will be comparing TVUK with the BBC version, and unless its 20% better on ITV then everyone will be picking holes in it. Its a poison chalice that may well backfire and they loose on the 12 million plus they will pay for it.
