Don't really come on this forum that much anymore, but I thought I'd through my opinion into the circus too on what's happened today.
The Voice has done very well for the BBC, despite all the guff people have written about it. The live shows were always the weak part, but the Blind Auditions always rate well, and that's the same in every country it's gone too. Also, the production company who are contracted to make The Voice (Wall to Wall) will lose out big here too.
What is rather concerning about the whole affair is the seemingly increasing monopoly on big entertainment shows. ITV's recent submission to DCMS about the BBC Charter Renewal, saying that the BBC shouldn't buy international formats (mainly entertainment). C4 & C5 are not going to go for them, neither will Sky, so for most International distributors it's ITV or bust, whether the show fits ITV or not. Lack of competition = bad news for British telly.
To those saying that British producers are making big TV shows, and that the BBC should always go with British ideas, the last big show to come out of this country was Dancing On Ice in 2006. Nearly 10 years ago.

The notion that these shows have to produce worldwide stars is rubbish. The BBC have no commercial interest in the artists, where as Cowell has to make money from them. Also, The Voice as a format is much more successful than X Factor worldwide; even the Voice Kids is more successful.
