The Zygon Invasion

Quote:
“The Zygons have been living in secret on Earth, unknown and unseen - until now. When Osgood is kidnapped by a rogue gang of the shape shifting aliens, the Doctor, Clara and UNIT must scatter across the world in a bid to set her free. But will they reach her in time, and can they stop an uprising before it's too late?”

Well this seems to be an interesting episode from the trailer

Anyone considering she will be the new companion? Also to explain how she's not actually dead??

TV TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdFS9hspkQM

The Poll will be added as soon as the episode has finished on Saturday 31st October 2015

If there's no full series next year, I can't see them looking to cast anyone soon.

So Osgood could be a good gap-filler for the specials, although it doesn't look like she'll be in this year's Christmas special.

I'd like her as a companion, though it's not impossible the show will start with a clean slate in 2017.

As for being alive, I suppose the obvious cop-out is to say it was a Zygon who Missy shot whilst the real Osgood was kidnapped.

BiB: The not actually dead thing either the Osgood who died in Death in Heaven was a Zygon or the Osgood in this episode is a Zygon. And I think it may be a plot point that we don't know which it is immediately, meaning we can't trust her.

Whether or not she's being set up as a future companion depends entirely on the answer to the above question.

Oh well, here's to another 156 timewasting posts to wade through (7 pages in) until we get something substantial to read.
And for those interested, here's the first post to review last night's episode:

I think the first 20 mins was pretty fast paced in this episode.

Well I think the pacing was wrong, although it was also brilliant when you consider stuff. Where's the poll? I'm going to vote excellent. Or poor. One of them. LET ME VOTE NOW.

Man what a cliff-hanger to this episode, and the surprise twist was very clever.... plus I never thought we would see Clara surprise The Doctor by wearing his sonic sunglasses.. just the sonic sunglasses...

Ok, so its pretty obvious that its just a childish game of 'me first' and petty one-upmanship going on here.

Looks like someone just won't be able to resist being the exhaulted "first to create the episode thread" - although I'm sure they will be happy with their box of tissues once they have the thread created.

Like it or not, its too early for the thread to be created. As many say it gets bogged down with drivel and when you want to use it for its proper function its already unwieldy.

So, best thing (although I am breaking this already!) is for nobody to post in it... and let it disappear off page 1.

I suspect the OP (whoever it is this week) will just bump their own thread... but at least the rest of us can keep it clear and empty till there is something to post about.

Well we even started a poll which indicated the majority of people think it should be kept until at least the day before. But according to some people if you express any preference about this subject then you need to get a life. So yet again we are left with an utterly pointless thread that will just be filled with comments about the thread itself or left ignored for days, You are totally right. Its become some tragic contest now. How anyone could get any satisfaction about being the first to push 'New thread' on a forum is beyond my comprehension. But theres nowt so queer as folk as they say!

I have a horrible feeling the cliff-hanger will be the reveal that Osgood is a Zygon and the real Osgood was indeed murdered by Missy. I hope I'm wrong.

But maybe its going to be interesting to see what happens to a Zygon if the human they are channeling is killed while they are still connected. Maybe the Osgood Zygon has forgotten she's not human.

Or maybe Osgood is really alive and it was the Zygon Missy murdered.

I feel a little bit sick with nerves going into this one . . . .

Zygons were rubbish, show will probably be cancelled now.

Poll needs the following options

Average
Poor
Rubbish
Star Wars Episode I
Cancel it Now!

Surely an instant cancellation is preferable to Star Wars Episode I?

Den Of geek review:

Quote:
“It’s a bit of a blockbuster movie one this, and it remains a joy to see the Zygons at work. It’s also, by distance, the hardest spoiler-free review to write this series so far, because it’s got lots of little moments that deserve to be discovered other than on a webpage.

Lots of fun, this, and it’s teeing up a potential frantic and impactful part two. With yet more Zygons in it…!”

Cultbox review:
http://www.cultbox.co.uk/reviews/epi...zygon-invasion

Quote:
“In this, as with much else in the episode, we’re mindful to celebrate what the episode doesn’t do. One early scene, set in a children’s playground, plays out in exactly the opposite way that you’re led to expect – the opposite way, certainly, that it would have played in one of Matt Smith’s quirkier adventures.

For an episode that is all about global threat, what’s impressive here is the restraint.

Even the Zygons themselves – suitably impressive, although not gifted enough transformation scenes for our liking – are treated as much as an idea as a blobby, lurid threat. Sure, they come with gunk if you want it, but also with two nifty new abilities: one physical and one psychological.

I was thinking of the time paradox. I.e. if they cancel it before the episode airs and erase it from existance.

Then again, that would have been preferable for Star Wars Ep. I - so they're probably about the same

When was the last time either of those sites gave an episode a negative review?

Just because they give positive reviews doesn't automatically make them blind Moffat loving sheep...
Perhaps the reviewers, oh I don't know, actually like Doctor Who and are enjoying the episodes they are watching? Some people do.

Cultbox has often been less than complimentary about some episodes.

As for Den of Geek they tend to give constructive reviews that lean on the side of positive for every show they review. They aren't one of those places that takes delight in tearing apart a show for the sport of it.

It wasn't just these sites that reviewed the last episode well. As I posted The Telegraph TV reviewer, The Guardian and in the US The AV Club gave it top marks with comments such as 'one of the best episodes of recent times$. Trust me. The AV Club is one of the harshest sites on the net when it comes to scoring and I know for a fact the majority of broadsheet TV critics are not card carrying Comic Con attending super geeks. Can you just accept many people not only didn't hate the episode but thought it was jolly good?

Also you might have missed my question on another thread so I'll ask again. You said Moffat had insisted on going ahead with the Sonic Sunglasses and that this had been despite some other writers saying it was a bad idea. Can you expand on this? What's your source for this as I've never read anything of the kind. Yes I presume the idea was Stevens but I've heard nothing of a backlash from the writers or prodcution team. Look forward to hearing about it.

Jamie Mathieson said it in an interview (I can't find the link at the moment but it was linked from a thread on DS).

Mathieson said that he wasn't keen on the idea of the sonic glasses but that Moffat insisted and, he thought, Moffat was right to do so as they've worked really well (they haven't and most people I know hate them).

I'll try and refind the link.

Interesting. I don't imagine Moffat is terribly democratic when it comes to such things but shame he didn't protest a bit more.
