Did Simon choose Max to avoid racial controversy?

I remember all the way back in 2005 some morons complained of Sharon not choosing a single white contestant in her top 4, and I also remember there being something in 2013 about producers not wanting Nicole to choose Hannah, Tamera AND Relley in case viewers said she was favouring them.

It's stupid, I know, but I wouldn't put it past the show and the producers.

I did think last night that he would pick either Max or Ebru once he'd picked Anton and Bupsi but I do think it is more to do with not splitting the same vote rather than race.
IMO, had he picked Anton, Bupsi and Jennifer or Kerrie Anne, they cover a similar demographic and may split each others vote.
By throwing in Max, who is completely different, he's gone for a different sector of the viewers

You could be on to something. If SeAn, Josh and Mason are chosen tonight and Keira, Havva and Louisa, then Max and Louisa are the only white person apart from a couple of girls in alien. The white population will probably get behind Louisa and she will win

I believe he was cast because he's the "people's choice" contestant. Bupsi is the comic entertainment. Anton is the "loveable talented can-do comeback".

They're casting a show, not just picking talent. Most of these voices cannot sell records.

Tbh I thought Jennifer would've got to judges houses until she sung that One Direction song big mistake she did.

I have no idea why she chose that song. Doing Shackles was what made people love her and she should have stuck to that genre rather than tried to be current and failed miserably

If it was the other way around and he chose 3 white people, then you'd be sure there would be people claiming he was a "racist". Cheryl was deemed one by people just because she didn't put Gamu through.

I can't remember Relley off the top of my head but anything would've been better than Abi Alton. What a tragic mess!!!

I know I thought she sounded awful in that performance she messed it up for herself trying to change.

This was Relley:

I remember she did an amazing Judges Houses performance and was really surprised when Abi made it through over her.

I'd hope he picked Max because he has a great voice. Even if that fact had to be pointed out to him by his "assistant". Simon never likes anyone who can actually sing.

I also think they like the contestants to be from different parts of the country for the regional vote.

No Max was far superior to Jennifer.

Cowell picked him because he had been told that he is a good singer.

I think you are still under the impression this is a singing competition and not a realty tv show

I don't think Simon put Max through to avoid racial controversy, he genuinely put him through based on his performance at the judges houses stage. He even said after Max's performance that he now thinks he is a contender and I agree.

I think that must've played a part in it. Though, admittedly, society is far less racially divided than previously.

No - I don't think Simon put Max through to "avoid" racial discrepancies.

He didn't put Jennifer through, because he knew she would be another Sam - a great singer who would be popular with a "tv" audience (potential winner), but ultimately, not someone he could make the big bucks from as a "long term" Xfactor "winner"

yeah yeah - call me cynical

He may well have ulterior motives, but from what I heard, he is the best act that Simon has in his category

That said, I'm tone deaf, but thought he sounded like the best of all the acts.

believe it or not, most white people won't just vote for someone because they are also white.

couple that with the fact that she racially abused a toilet attendant and you can maybe see why people thought that.

Oh lord, if he had put all white contestants through there would be cries of racism, if he had put all black contestants through, the same - you can't win either way. I don't believe race was a factor.
