I would describe it as voice calling over WiFi but not "WiFi calling".
WiFi calling is built into the phone. It's native.
With in touch you will end up with 2 sets of text messages and 2 sets of calls lists.
One lot in the native dialler and one lot in the app. This for me running a business would be hellish.
Also the app needs to be running all the time. If you forget to load it, no incoming calls.
The apps are pretty unreliable/buggy and the whole thing is a bit of a kludge.
WiFi calling is done from the native dialler and is completely transparent to the user.
It uses the same codec that VoLTE uses. The only difference between the two is one uses cellular the other WiFi.
Seamless call hand over from VoLTE to WiFi calling and vice versa will be possible.
EE's implementation, while it took about 8 months longer that is was supposed to to get it out, is almost completely faultless. Most of the time you don't think about it.
Completely surprised the other day. Customer with Beyond DSL satellite broadband.
15 meg down but 880ms ping time.
Suddenly realised my iPhone had connected to WiFi calling!! And it worked! Called 150 and got perfect audio.
I would Imagine a call could be interesting with perhaps a 2-3 second delay between you finishing speaking and hearing the other person. That would take some practice!
