Tristan's ability as a pro and partner to a celeb

Every year I am disappointed by Tristan as a pro on this show. He never seems supportive of his celeb and certainly doesnt seem to ever build a strong rapport with any celeb he dances with. And I can't with the constand smiling. When he and Jamelia were upstairs with ainsley natalie tess and claudia I couldn't bear his set grin. Give your partner a hug man. Anyway I just think there are other pros they have dropped who do a better job than him

I like Tristan - its a relief not to have a couple doing all this gushing over each other. He was very supportive of Jamelia in the way he spoke to her. I would say Jamelia is not that easy to work with and may not be into all that touchy feely stuff. I don't what it is about Strictly but if a couple is not fawning over each other there is a problem and if they do it too much there is something going on between them.
I think that with all the rumours over the last few years, pros and celebrities alike are very wary of how they act around each other especially the married ones!

This is only the second year he's been in it and he didn't last long last year so I don't know how you can really come to that conclusion.
He seems lovely to me.

I agree Brendan's Babe. I think Tristan has been very supportive in trying to keep Jamelia's chin up (quite literally at times ) and seems like a great guy generally. He's a professional and it's his job to remain composed and put on a brave face in the dance off, hence the smile; "The show must go on!" and all that. In training and on ITT he seems a lot of fun to be around and very down to earth.

I don't have anything personal to say against him but he just doesn't seem to stand out. I can never remember anything about his routines or his dancing. I would presume the Charleston was done by outside hands, as it was extremely good, but I was watching Jamelia, not him.

Well then he is doing his job right if it was Jamelia you were watching and not him - its his job to show off his partner not himself. Last year he had Jennifer who couldn't dance - I'm hoping he gets a real contender next year.
If you go to the thread for next weeks dances you will see him dancing with Kristina Smirnoff in DWTS in the US - someone put up a video of it and see what you think

After the red light was on them you could see Tristan talking earnestly to Jamelia - judging from what he said earlier should think he'd be supportive

I think he is lovely and those dimples are just so sexy. He just seems so clean cut and honest. Jamelia I feel is not an easy one to work with, nut he does a good job. He seemed very supportive this weekend.

I'm just loving these Freudian slip mistakes

I think he's lucky that he's pretty and Irish is what I think, otherwise he'd be Hayley Holt!d out of the pro ranks with a quickness.

I think he is very supportive of Jamelia and I don't think she would be the easiest to work with. He was only in a few weeks last year and I thought he got on very well with his partner - who really could not dance. I agree that he doesn't fawn or drool over his partner but not everyone is comfortable with that. I think he is lovely.

Sorry CravenHaven my F slip was because I'm using my phone to send and after a nasty accident my eyesight is poor at times and I can't always see my typos!!
If only I was clever enough to make a planned Freudian slip instead of doing it by accident. Least it gave you a laugh.

Suspect the producers soon learn from the celebrities each year how supportive and friendly the Pros have been.

If the celebrities have a good experience, others will get to know and will be willing to do Strictly in another year.

If Tristan is kind and supportive it's more likely the producers will keep him - especially for more fragile contenders.

Not saying it's the only criteria for keeping Pros but it must help.

His choreography this week was terrible. If all you can think of to make a FT watchable is to stick a coach and a dinner table into it, you are struggling. I seem to remember he had a rowing boat in one last year for no decipherable reason. He's easy on the and perfectly pleasant as far as we can see, but no great dancer.

I totally agree. I mean I was excited for him to get a reasonably good partner this year.
I am familiar with his work and I have watched him on Dancing with the stars in America with other contestants (even though yes most of them were duffers ) and I am sorry at this point I just think it is him who is the problem.
Yes Jamelia is not that good but surely another pro could have gotten more out of her

He just seem content to have a stable job and show up. A contender would be wasted on him imo.

I am sorry to say this because I really , really like him as a person ( he is so lovely, funny, encouraging......) but he just doesnt cut it as a choreographer/teacher imo.

I don't think the pro decides on props etc. Do you really think he would have put in a proposal if he had any choice?

According to his latest interview, he had two suggestions for foxtrot songs this week and the producers turned down both of them. James Jordan thought Tristan and Jamelia had a terrible song for a foxtrot.

Quote:
“
I had a song I wanted to use for this dance and a back-up song but unfortunately they both got passed off so we will work with this one and try do the best job we can and hope we are smiling at the end.”

He seems to get along with Jamelia very well.

I have been very impressed with Jamelia's attitude on the show and it is similar to Tristan's tell-it-like-it-is style.

He has helped Jamelia handle the dance offs perfectly by getting her into the right frame of mind to do her best.

She is having a good time and a happy Jamelia is a productive Jamelia. She does lack some self belief at times, but she is still here and still swingin'.

Maybe Tristan isn't the best at some things but he is IMO one of the best pros to have put Jamelia with.

I've watched him for several years and have never been hugely impressed by his choreography - and the fact that he always seemed/seems to get stuck with, erm, partners with limited talent and/or mobility - his YOUNGEST partner on DWTS was 45 at the time, his oldest was over 70 - didn't help his cause. I was hoping for better things when he was partnered with Jamelia who is only 34 but he still hasn't managed to get any truly remarkable performance out of her. The Charleston last week was entertaining but fun-free and we were back to normal business this week. Maybe he's just not a good trainer.

I know they get the music foisted on them but I didn't know they had to use certain props as well. If that is the case then he has been very hard done by as he seems to get more than his fair share.

He has done the American version of the show too and didn't make a huge impact. To be fair, all of his partners were either old or pretty crap.

I imagined you saying that in an Irish accent for some reason...not that I know what you sound like normally!

Jeez I think Jamelia could be a handful imagine if she was Brendan's partner, I think Tristan's been great with her.

I expected her to be like that, but I think she is coming across quite well.

I'm sure most pros and celebs have never met before the show starts so it must be difficult if there is even the smallest hint of a personality clash. Goodness, everybody is human after all and can't get along with some of the people they are matched with. On the whole most people get on fine . I'm sure that most of the 'stories' of bust ups are created by the papers/TV just to improve ratings. I'm glad when the truth comes out AND the true story is revealed.

Going back to Tristan, I think he is doing a great job and I'd like to have a fleckle with him anytime.
