It got huge ratings for the first episode, so there was a lot of interest and positivity about the show initially. I don't begrudge anyone their appreciation for the show, I hope it gets a second season too, but it's not hard to see why it's been nose-diving in the ratings. It falls short by a very wide margin compared to the best or even average dramas on TV.

Not sure I could say which one is worse. I generally find it annoying that every TV show has to come with a predictable, forced romance, most of which don't work. But Kara and "James" is particularly bad, and at least on The Flash, they've had the good sense to put Barry and Iris on hold for now.

The girly aspect of the show isn't the problem for me. What bothers me is how bad the writing is. I think Melissa fills her role well, but there's so much wrong with the story that I'm in shock. I mean this galactic genius virus that was solved with mere thought of hope, or villains that literally do look like plastic, and then there's this whole superman business... The writing (and special effects sometimes) are just too poor.

Whilst I would agree that Barry and Iris (at least those crew members) don't seem to have that connection on screen, they have far more of a connection than Kara and James. The later is just painful to watch.

Yes the writing is the let down.

It reminds me of the ill fated Bionic Woman remake. Decent enough production values but the story just feels like they haven't spent enough time pre-planning how it should go. It's like they are writing each episode as they film each scene.

e.g. Supergirl has to take fort roz into space to save the humans. Ok, lets have her lift the million tonne object rather than fly it like Non was going to do. Ok, how do we save Supergirl now we've said she will be stuck in space with no manoeuvrability and unable to breath? Get Alex to fly Kara's ship to save her. How will she do that in the spur of the moment? Dunno, ignore it, no one will be thinking that deeply, we don't.

I hope there's a season 2, but there's lots of room for improvement.

I thought the laws of physics was that for every action there is an opposite reaction.

So if she is pushing Fort Roz away, should she also be pushing herself back towards Earth?

That had so much potential I remember Katee Sackhoff just nailed every scene she was in the rest was a tad forgettable such a shame

Why? Because I'm wrong or right? I'm not sure.

Even if she could push herself back would she have enough oxygen to last the trip back?

I know she can take in a lot of air.

I get that but I would still like to know if I am right or wrong in real life. It's been a while since I did physics at school.

I'm not sure that's how it works, otherwise how could anyone push anything away?

What would happen is: the amount of force she'd have to exert where she stood*, she'd just end up burying herself.

That said, maybe they all have some kind of force field they can exert on their surroundings; a million tonnes isn't that much when displaced across a large surface area.

*It's exactly a million tonnes of force.

Yes that's a point too. It would be like a pin being pushed into a cork board.

Same, it's not perfect but no show is but on the whole over the season it's been entertaining and I've thoroughly enjoyed watching it and it's had some truly outstanding individual episodes and some great individual moments.

Melissa, Calista, Chyler and David Harewood have all been brilliant at times and the scenes between Cat and Kara have been some of my favourites throughout.

The finale did what it needed to, finished off the season one threat, albeit in a slightly cop out fashion, gave a decent conclusion to all the existing relationships and dramas and then added in a couple of cliffhangers for if the show does get picked up for season two.

I think it's pretty much guaranteed one, critical reception of the show has been fairly complementary throughout its run in the whole and its viewing figures have held reasonably steady averaging out at at 1.68 in the demos and 7.6m viewers.

Since when can Kryptonians not fly in space?

Caught up with the finale to see if any signs of improvement and it appears "not really."

Turns out that a bit of a pep talk can defeat the Kryptonian super weapon.

Turns out that the Kryptonian army is so inept that they pop off for a kip at the vital moment.

This finale out stupided some of the more stupid Who finales.,,whoever the writers were it's obvious that they had no clever answers to the position they had put Supergirl in and just came up with "stupid".

Look forward to next seasons finale against Thor when he forgets that the day they set for their final battle is the day his hammer goes to the cleaners for its annual polish.

What's a big shame is that Supergirl herself, and the way she is written, works incredibly well for me. I care about her but I really don't care about anything else that happens in this appallingly written mess.

It's definitely different from most live-action versions, which is what most people will be familiar with, but there have been various comic book incarnations where Superman's powers didn't include the ability to survive or fly in space.

I don't really mind them creating some "realistic" restrictions for what Kryptonians can do, but then they go and pull Alex's absurd pod stunt.

I have enjoyed Supergirl but it's not without it's faults..

I still can't get my head round how she couldn't save that lady who jumped from Katco as well as saving Wynn and Jimmy.

Apparently Superman can't save three people either.

Also with Superman either have him in the programme or not at all, not half arsed blurs or boots.

Except Superman was off world in the previous episode; I wasn't aware he had a space ship (although it is possible).

Indeed, especially since she can apparently run just as fast as the Flash.

[quote=Our Kid;82197073I still can't get my head round how she couldn't save that lady who jumped from Katco as well as saving Wynn and Jimmy.[/QUOTE]I was puzzled by how I thought they'd jumped out of different sides of building, yet landed in a line right close to each other - or at least that's how I remember it. Maybe if they'd shown the two guys struggling with Kara, so making her rescuing them more difficult, it would've come across as more understandable that she wasn't able to save the lady cos the guys were being dicks.

Lots of possibilities. Superman being off world doesn't necessarily mean he's able to fly in space. Maybe someone gave him a liff, or maybe he was teleported. Maybe he wasn't even in space, he could just have been on Earth-{insert number}.

pretty sure both of them could...she didn't even bother to try, must be a rather short building.

I think it's pretty much a given it will get a second season, they're probably just waiting until the May Sweeps to make a big announcement.

Good God that's going to be hectic, but at the same time could be superb! I just hope they don't ruin it. There's speculation (over on the Flash thread) that some Earths are going to merge soon, so there's potential here to have Kara (and her entire Earth) actually be the same as the one Barry and Oliver live on/in.

All to do with Flashpoint (of which I know very little about).
