If they didn't have anything about her been a girl then people would just say "They may have well made Superboy"

Depending how much you like her, there are some pictures somewhere that might be to your liking...

A copy and paste:
I've seen the pilot and it's awful. The show's biggest problem - like with many movies and TV shows that star female leads - is that the men who are writing/directing forget they're writing an actual human being and get completely hung up on the gender of the character. It's not helped by the fact that it's written by the show creators of Arrow and Flash which feature some of the worst female characters I've ever seen. They treat Supergirl's gender as some sort of obstacle to overcome when that's just not the character at all. She's Supergirl. She's above gender politics. That should not even factor into her story at all. Her first villain just so happens to be a misogynist ("on my planet females bow before males!") and that speech from Calista Flockhart about "Girl vs women" was so self-conscious and on the nose. It felt like the creators thought they were going to get backlash from feminists so they put in this exposition-fest justification of the title. We're not stupid - we know why the show is called 'Supergirl'. It's brand recognition. Geez. And I'm sorry, they're trying to make Kara way too much like Felicity in Arrow (that's not a compliment) so that she appears relateable to the teenage girl audience. She's an alien immigrant and, unlike her cousin, she had an actual life that she remembers in another galaxy far away. Those elements should come into play for her character just like it did for Supergirl in Smallville. Also, because they've made Jimmy Olsen an older smoother guy it would have made sense to cast a white ginger haired man to show that progression. They have chosen to make this Jimmy Olsen so different personality-wise that the race change just makes him seem like a different character altogether. The special and practical FX are good (clearly influenced by Man of Steel) but that's about it. I really hope that when this show inevitably gets cancelled that other show runners can analyse that it failed because of how the creators handled a female lead and not because it's a female character in itself. re: Jimmy call me James Olsen - I'm irked by his beef-cakeyness, not his race. If they include some reference to his previous geekiness, maybe throwing in a photo or two of him from his pre-Godlike body era, then I won't have any difficulty accepting him.

1. Script b. Casting iii. Costume four. Production values I'm sure there's an invisible plane's worth of stuff I missed, but it sure wasn't the feminist issues that ruined the farce of a pilot. |

The pilot was pretty good. I enjoyed it for what it was. At the moment, she's a bit whiny for me, but I'm hoping as the show progresses she'll become the girl I know from the comics.

The frankly terrible:

But you have seriously got to be kidding saying the show has low production values. That's mostly NOT subjective, but a matter of actual coin used to make what we see. The value of the lighting, sound, scenery and props used. And none of that was even remotely cheap on this. You may not have LIKED certain design decisions, but actually being cheap? Come on. |

Yeah.
The Wonder Woman pilot was beyond horrible. The Supergirl pilot is pretty darn fine. |

It's about time we had more bright superheroes on telly. The Flash is the first "bright" show I've loved for years! And now we have two

Give her a break. She had a load of crap to deal with and barely has any control over her powers... She'll be ass kicking like a pro in a few episodes!

I enjoyed that episode a lot more than when I watched it earlier this year. Apart from some cringey lines, I thought it was great.
Cringey lines: - At last my daughter will have a role model to look up to - On my planet, women kneel before men - She can't do it, why ? Because she's a girl - the Supergirl v Superwoman debate Those lines just feel so forced. But a very enjoyable episode besides. Maybe they'll cut down on that kind of thing as time goes on, but I look forward to next weeks episode, which is meant to be action packed. |

I have read that in the US the first ep had the highest ratings ever for a TV show based on a comic book.

^I can imagine Supergirls best buddy (who wants to be more) taking one look at James, throwing his arms up in defeat and moving to Greenland to become an Eskimo.... then returning as he couldn't find any.

Wonder if they will ever have to deal with the fingerprints situation?
Presumbly her fingerprints are officially listed under Kara Danvers so would there be a situation where Supergirl accidently leaves her fingerprints & someone checks them! |
