I found it a seriously mixed bag of stories and emotions this week, with the two elements of the arcs not really mashing up as well as they usually do. I don't think Rudy Jones/Parasite really worked as the episodic villain of the week either, specially as it did look like Kara offed him completely which isn't quite the comic book scenario. Interesting that in the comics he's a janitor at S.T.A.R. Labs though The CGI for Parasite was pretty good though and the John Carpenter-esque The Thing intro was cool!Drunk Kara was brilliantly done by Benoist, I also like that Mon-El hasn't automatically stepped up into hero mode, he is definitely a bit feckless. It was a nice twist that him trying to do good has landed him in the hands of Cadmus. As an introduction, I thought Guardian's wasn't too bad and I liked that James had Winn on hand as backup to go through what the suit could do for him. I also like the way all the CW DC shows have introduced LGBTQ characters without making a big thing of their sexuality from Capt Singh in The Flash through to Obsidian in Legends of Tomorrow and I thought Alex's pathway to accepting her sexuality has been really well done, irrespective of whether there's any "chemistry" with Maggie. I happen to think there is chemistry between them, they play well and spark off each other as law enforcement agents well and I can totally understand why Maggie said what she did. Chyler Leigh has been top of her game for this story arc and the two scenes with Alex and Kara were heart wrenching. And now we have J'onn and M'gann and the potential explosion there when he finds out he know has White Martian blood in his system plus the trailers for next week

I doubt he's actually dead, the parasite entity itself can presumably find a new host. Not so sure about Rudy, though. However, as far as Kara and her intentions were concerned, she was clearly going for the kill. That's not good enough, even if she said sorry. It's just another example of how all over the place the characterizations in the Berlanti-verse are, never mind the morals/values of the heroes. Last season, they made it pretty clear that "Superman doesn't kill", and that Supergirl followed the same moral code. I guess that got lost in the move to the CW.
My issue was that Rudy/Parasite is an actual comic villain and they didn't really do justice to that particular incarnation and they didn't make it clear that they were two separate entities so, when Kara blew up Parasite, she presumably ended Rudy Jones' life too which isn't true to the origins. |

I have no problem with them killing people when it's necessary, comic book heroes aren't saints they just try to avoid taking a life without due cause.

I still miss Cat

Yes, but look at S1's villains and how badly they were messed up. WOW, just a mess, really.

That's not to say that there can't be extreme cases, where there is just no alternative. Terrible execution aside, I guess that was the point they were trying to make with Snyderman's infamous killing of Zod, but that's never really been the case in the Berlanti-verse, where killing often seems to be the preferred option for both the heroes and the supporting characters. And in this episode, Supergirl essentially decided "well, punching him once didn't work, I guess I'll just kill him, then". Nothing super about that. |

I found it disappointing:
(1) what was stopping her from eye blasting the baddies THRU those bars ? (2) when Mrs Luthor was standing RIGHT BY THE CAGE, taunting her, what was stopping her from superspeeding those 5 feet and grabbing her by the neck ? (3) the whole Lexi (wait is that her Greys name?) would've been much more interesting if when kissed the Cop Lady had gone, "woh, steady on there girl, sure I'm gay but you're just not my type", cos iiuc not all gay people fancy each other, and just cos cop likes lexi doesn't mean she likes LIKES lexi. (4) Green Martian locking up White Martian <- did he do that without speaking to ANYONE else. I mean, what crimes has she committed on THIS planet ? (5) Guardian bits.... skip but Original-Clark saving them, that's was cool

Loved the reference to Batman and Kara's mistrust of masked vigilanties rant, that should make things interesting next week... ![]() Looking forward to the crossover week, I hope the writers ham it up for Kara's first experience with the Arrow team, like when Barry first met them and was like god you're all so depressing over here! ![]() Quote:

Or when they let her out of the cage. "Woohoo! I'm out. Now, better do as these weak humans say". I guess she pulled a bit of a Barry on that one.Quote:

It's the Berlanti-verse, where the heroes lock people up in the basement with no due process. She's just lucky he didn't outright kill her.Quote:

#skipbuddies (highfive) I actually started skipping after the "Hank Henshaw is dead. I'm Cyborg Superman" line. What the hell was that!? And why did Kara's punches only make him go "KLANK!" after she burned his face?Quote:
but Original-Clark saving them, that's was cool "Jermiah Danvers is dead. I'm Porky Superman"

That may be acceptable for your average Marvel hero, but for Superman it's an absolutely fundamental aspect of the character..

And yes, I'm pretty sure the secret Mon-El is hiding is that he's the Prince not the guard.Quote:
Yeah, I didn't buy that at all. I mean, yeah, he's alive, but that he's helping that cause, and that he was allowed, in such a secure environment, to be anywhere near Kara or Mon? Surely Lady Lux isn't that stupid?
Maybe she only hears what she chooses to concentrate on? You could be in a room in close proximity to a number of people talking about a various number of topics, but you're more likely to pick up on a conversation or person of interest. Maybe he was just going to tell her he thought he was in love with her? Either way, this sudden romantic interest (from him, to her) seems to have come out of nowhere... ![]() I thought it was another mixed episode but overall I enjoyed it even with the odd sticking points. Kara is unfailingly naive, that's part of her whole character, she believed Mad Mrs Luthor when she said she'd let Mon-El go so she fulfilled her part of the bargain. Still not sure how dropping Kara's blood onto what's clearly a hand print scanner should have worked though! I'm assuming the dropping of Lex's name into the conversation was how they knew about the existence of the Fortress of Solitude. Anyways, episode as a whole didn't seem to be well structured, usually there's the A plot leading the narrative which usually involves Kara's "human" side mirroring something which is happening in her superhero world. I suppose technically Kara's dark place of finding Jeremiah but having to leave him, fighting Hank/Cyborg Superman etc, mirrored J'onn's struggle finding out about M'gann being a White Martian and the blood thing. Then the B plot with Guardian versus other vigilante was just a bit too Arrow for me this week and chuck in the Alex/Maggie confrontation and it was all just too many plots all at once. Although it did have the hilarious scene with Alex nailing Winn and getting him to confess about James. Still, next week we get the start of the big crossover so I'm seriously looking forward to that. |

And I don't have a problem with it, Supergirl isn't Superman, this isn't the comic book world, the same rules don't apply and haven't applied since the show started..

No, the rules were clearly confirmed in episode 8 last season, when Supergirl, with a particular tone of disdain, dismissed Alex's suggestion that she sometimes had to kill in battle. Supergirl's exact reason was that "Superman doesn't kill". So to suddenly have her kill this casually is not only a mischaracterization, it flies in the face of what the show had established as her moral code. But, as I've said for a long time, on the Berlanti shows, each scene seems to be written just for that scene, with complete disregard for logic, continuity and the integrity of the characters.

The robot sentry in the Fortress should've gone "welcome back kara, have you done something with your hair .... and face.... in fact whole body, you've had a LOT of work done babe."

At the end Kara went to warm up the Pizza (I think) with her heat vision as she went Solar Flare shouldn't she have lost her powers for a few days.
