Curiously, how fast are Supergirl and Superman exactly? Presumably to travel through space (to fly through space) they must need some sort of speed to get anywhere quick, yet their abilities come from our sun (as far as I am aware, the Kryptonians on Krypton weren't capable of flight and healing etc), so if it's our sun (and others like it) that give Clark and Kara their powers, when they leave Earth and travel (where) in space, how is that possible using their biology, and the source of their apparent invincibility?

However outer space (without the sun) I'm not sure. |

*LOL - The question I asked. I'M going to guess it's a continuity error then.
*AS FOR FLASH525s question- I wud guess it means as long as he's in the solar system hes okay. which would mean that none of the reeve movies broke continuity there. I think so anyway.... |

Also a Blue Sun gives them even more power and new powers |

Think of it like a battery the Sun charges them up for X amount of time so even with no or a red sun they will keep their powers until the charge runs out.
What's the charge? In order for Clark or Kara to leave our solar system to go elsewhere, they're going to need a lot of power; they may be super, but there's still the gravitational pull of our sun to the solar system. If Clark or Kara leave our system, can they? Do they? How on earth do they even navigate the vastness of space? It would take, what, decades, centuries for either of them to travel to another system unless they're breaking the light barrier (and I thought only (a) Flash could do that, but they don't fly). Furthermore, with all the knowledge Kryptonians had, you'd have thought they'd have figured out that various stars enhance their abilities before they allowed their planet to go into ruin. |

If you read Green Lantern it seems other planets and solar systems are just a hop skip and jump away in the DC universe you can go to another planet and be home in time for tea. The charge can last a long time in one comic the sun got blocked out and Superman kept his powers for quite a few years in others it seems to happen pretty quick again depends what story that writer wants to tell. |

So the source of their power is one big convenient plot device?
All comics are the same hell at one time it got so bad that's why they had to make up the multiverse to say No that was Superman of Earth 2 that did that this is Earth 1 Superman. |

Yes pretty much so as is his powers in general and his weakness to Kryptonionite Lex had a ring with a Kryptonionite stone in it sometimes that is enough to kill Superman other times just weaken him enough for Lexmark to get away.

Depends on who's writing.
Superman/Supergirl can keep their solar charge for a long time usually. Superman usually longer since his body has adapted for years on Earth. Kara depends whether she was charged by a artificial solar light source in her pod all those years. Generally, flight allows Superman/Girl faster speed than running (Smallville Clark essentially had better than Flash running speed…) and in space they can usually trigger some sort hyper speed velocity. They usually lose their charge in space because they run into a red giant or something. (Do blue suns still supercharge them?) As for their strength after the red sun exposure…depends. Some have them just a "normal human", some have them still stronger/faster than a human because of Kryptonian genetics (they're designed for a higher gravity). |

There's a small error here too, cause in (I think) Season #1, Hank specifically tells Kara that Superman is off world at one point. Seeing as it's unlikely the DEO have space ships, and presuming that Clark doesn't have a working Kryptoian Ship hiding somewhere, how does he do this?

![]() So Barry Allen is no longer the fastest man alive ... not that he is anyway, beaten by Thawne, Zoom, the Rival, Wally & Savitar... "Humans can't move that fast who are you?" |

Yep, I still remember the scene when Clark runs with Kara in Smallville and Kara responds:
"Humans can't move that fast who are you?" Though…in the Season 11 continuation comic, Smallville Clark's land speed actually gets lowered from gaining the ability to fly-superspeed. i forget the reason. |

I wonder how much better our various heroes would all be if they didn't practically have all the same powers. How many of them have flight, super speed and enhanced strength for example. Wonder Woman shouldn't be able to fly (that's the job of a Hawk/Kryptonian), Superman (and Supergirl) shouldn't be fast on their feet (that's the job of a Speedster). It would certainly be more ... credible if they had to support each other because of their differences, rather than everyone running around utilizing their same abilities.

On TV, I particularly wish The Flash didn't have have to be so fast. The casual time traveling has gotten completely out of control, and this nonsense about how he supposedly perceives everything in slow motion, because it made for a cool concept for that one particular scene, completely wrecks the internal logic of the show, where 99% of the time that's obviously not the case. |
