Apologies for asking such a silly question but it has been annoying me for ages.

Anyone else irritated by it?

Isn't it the other way round and just an abbreviation?

Ive always known it to be the Cha Cha. But in regards to the 3 chas, I thought it was to do with learning the steps. So you are reciting "cha...cha - cha cha cha". So maybe the latter phrasing has just stuck?

*im not a dancer so have no clue bit i have just fathomed a guess here 😀

I find it more annoying when it's called Cha Cha.
My childhood friend ( in the early 70s ) was into latin & ballroom in a big way and she called it Cha Cha Cha.
It makes more sense anyway because it describes the rhythm.

As far as I'm aware it has always been called the " Cha-Cha-Cha-" and that is the correct name for the dance...inevitably some people shorten it to Cha Cha, but at comps, its always written as CCC in the programme.

I feel really stupid.

Now I've just bumped the thread too.

I really really hope no-one else replies.

Ditto the above.

Even more annoying is when some people (heard it occasionally on Strictly) shorten it to just Cha - sounds like slang for a cup of tea!

When Craig says it, it sounds like Char, Char, Char.

Ok yeah I have learned how to do some of the dances. I think if thats the case like me you should be able to get the name right at least. Again it's like disrespecting the dance and not being serieous if you cant say it right
