I don't dislike Jay; he seems like an OK guy and he's a good dancer. I don't really have a favourite this year and it wouldn't be a travesty if he won. I do think he was probably destined to win from the beginning; he's an inoffensive boy band member and there was no question of his ability given his experience.

The hysteria for him on here puts me off him though - Monkseal's post sums it up perfectly.”

Yes that is a much better way to describe them.

Do you have a pamphlet?

Hysteria? There have been so many negative threads about Jay that I can only assume these are the ones you mean.

If you mean you that are put off by other people liking Jay, I'm sure he'll get on OK without your support. I make up my own mind about people, so why would I be put off by supporting someone that other people like too?

Everyone is influenced by other factors, so you must be somewhat unique. This sort of defensiveness is what I was talking about.

Um, not it isn't .... it's a perfectly normal noun used in a variety of contexts, derived from the verb "to hate".

Of course people are influenced by other factors. I am too, with more important things. Just not on here by this.

Why is sticking to your guns and continuing to support someone considered "defensive"?

There have been previous winners (or even finalists) who I have expected might go on to appear in stage musicals but have not done so, but it must open opportunities to them all. We might not see Anita Rani on stage in a musical but I can imagine her getting offers to make programmes about music, dancing, Bollywood etc that she might not have got without appearing on Strictly.

Nobody told me about any of these. Hrmmpph.

Back to the topic.

Jay seems like a lovely, decent person and I hope that however far he gets in Strictly, he is successful in whatever branch of the performing arts he chooses to pursue after that.

I haven't the faintest clue how much he's worth, but I've variously read £8m, £0.8m and 'skint' (in articles from 2012). T'internet, eh?

I started this thread as a serious post as I was interested.

Been really startled by some of the replies to what to me was a sensible question.

I like Jay and enjoy his dancing, but am also impressed by Anita as an absolute beginner and Jeremy for his hard work and enthusiasm.

I agree with the quote - can see where Anita might go on.

Jeremy could also do more - John Sargeant was a current affairs journalist who now does more.

Harry Judd did actually win - I'm not so sure Jay will - but carried on with his pop group.

So it isn't so clear to me what Jay would or could do. Seriously what do you think?

My feeling is he'll try for musical theatre. If you think he is too shy or nervy and won't carry on to anything then fine, please say so,

But please (pretty please ), there's no need to be sarcastic or fall out over what was just a question

Fade into obscurity tbh, he was arguably the least popular/least known member of The Wanted I reckon he'll just sort of hang around doing bits and pieces but not really anything huge. Like look at other boy band and girl band members of the past. Simon Webbe doesn't do much and neither does Frankie all the other Saturdays have gone on to solo projects. Kimberly has haf a fair bit of success and has established herself as a presenter and performer and of course Alesha has doje very well for herself haha. I think it really depends on the person, Jay doesn't really have that go getter personality where he will see this as a massive marketing step and seize all the fame he can get from it.

I'm quietly optimistic for him. He says in his Ok interview that he's just in the show to enjoy the experience. There's no big agenda. That's the best way to approach shows like this. He's just enjoying learning all the new dances.

I think he has a chance to pick up some good work but its a good thing some of you negative ninnies aren't his manager! Christ you could suck the life out of anything.

The jive alone will open some doors. Whether he has the ambition to take advantage of those offers is another matter. He's lovely and chatty on ITT and very funny but most people don't get to see that. He needs to show that personality on the main weekly show.

Once the contestants start to drop like flies and he has more screen time I think things will take off for him.

Musical theatre and presenting are his likely avenues.

If the BBC takes a shine to him and starts him off gently then who knows what could happen. They did a good job with Sam and Mark.

Musical theatre would be an option and compared to most SCD winners he'd fit into that well. SCD is a fantastic training ground for him. By the end of the series he'll have toughned up a lot. I wish him well even if a few souless bast*rds on here don't.

I think he's one of those lucky people who's happy in his own skin and would be happy doing pretty much anything if he loved it. I don't think he's interested in money or fame as much as he loves to perform so even if things don't work out, I think he'd be quite happy to teach and live life in happy obscurity

Yes he does seem happy in his skin. I hope he and Aliona do very ambitious dances up to the final so that he can use them as a great audition tape.

Play table tennis BTW it's not mandatory to have a job that keeps him in a public eye. I think he's one of those who do not do Strictly for PR, but because he wanted to.

Surely she would have had to squeeze out ??

On topic, I'm not a Jay hatah, honest, but I don't think he has the personality to make it big in musical theatre. On the plus side, he's a better dancer than Chambers!

Good luck to him in whatever he does do though, he seems a nice enough lad.
