With a broken leg, it would have been put out of its misery by now. Time for Cowell to take this dreadfully dull and unimaginative show off tv for good and come up with something different.

If Cowell goes off to do America Has Talent then one suspects it might take a year off

Yep I thought the same...If Cowell's off doing another show then XFactor will probably hit the knackers yard.

Ignore pathetic comments like this.

This forum is a legitimate place to discuss the X Factor in it's dying throes.

Of course it is coming to an end, anyone would need to be blind not to see it. I have barely watched it this series or last but from what I have seen, nothing has changed at all. Painfully predictable and horrific ratings for a show like X Factor.

Why bother bringing it back next year?

It really does feel like it's 'done' this year.

I would imagine Cowell is a proud man and with a planet sized ego i doubt if he would want to carry on being humiliated in the viewing figures, even Countryfile is ahead of it at present. It's become a mind numbing bore and the public have had enough of it, it's in freefall and i just can't see it carrying on after this disastrous series.

Its been past it for a while but the format changes and ever declining viewership make me feel this is the end or maximum one more year.

5 million viewers for a live show. Is this a joke or something?

i know we'll get told off for discussing ratings outside the ratings thread but to be 2M down on the same weekend from last year AND for it to have been the first live show which usually gets viewers that dont watch the pre-recorded stuff that rating is woeful

To be fair I've been reading these sort of comments for years and it's still here.

As long as it is getting a ratings above the level of anything else they'd have on in that slot at this time of year it's here to stay. (Other than some utter disaster like a contestant committing suicide after an elimination, or some kind of paedophile or drugs scandal involving the judges and/or producers.)

The big problem is that we want it to change and we want it to stay the same. If there elements that are similar to previous shows we moan about "cliché's" "same old routine" etc, but if any tweaks are made it "was better when they..." "why don't they do it like in previous series".

I think there is a touch of rose tinted glasses when it comes to the earlier series. Take a look at this live show from 2004 and you'll see actually the show is now a lot better in many ways. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtw92R7P83I

However, there are some aspects of the show that shouldn't change and it applies to virtually all shows with a judging panel. One is that there needs to be at least one judge that is going to give a fair but blunt analysis of the performances - Simon Cowell , Nigel Lithgoe, Craig Revel-Horwood... The problem is that Simon seems to rave about almost every act - even the comedy duo who he would have ripped to shreds in previous series. I think giving him the overs was a shame, because Max would have become like that awful liverpudlian with the shakes being shredded week after week

That's the problem...it isn't anymore.

And comparing this series to the first ever isn't exactly fair as the show has evolved plenty since then.

I would imagine the same excuses will be wheeled out - it was Halloween, most people Sky+ or watch on catch up, unseasonably warm - whatever.

Truth is, it's a shadow of the show it was in the glory years and tv viewers have moved on. Very few shows manage to remain popular for a decade and maybe it's just time to admit the show has had it's day and move on

They'll try and spin that, but that won't sell with advertisers who need instant results.

At one time the show was must see TV. Big characters, lots of drama and the odd top singer. It was great family viewing, the family would all watch it together and just enjoy the craziness of it.

Everything about the show is wrong this year from the new judges, contestants that are not connecting with the audience, starting the live finals 3 weeks late, 6 chair challenge that dragged on forever, and the live reveal of the top 12.

Last year people were excited by the show, we had a good crop of contestants who the fans were passionate about and things felt right, this year it feels like a different show and not in a good way.

Also Simon is not longer honest with his critiscism, now he is just trying to big everyone up instead of telling people they are useless. Also why on earth did he think a reggae version of an adele song would go down well with the public.

I can't believe how drastically the show has changed and become such a dogs dinner.

Its a complete mess.

The show used to be about an average Joe in an ordinary job being discovered and enjoying, dare I say it , 'a journey'.

From the auditions on now, contestants turning up with backing singers, dancers , auto tune .. the whole works. Too contrived, too professional. It used be someone singing in a room acapella than finally reaching the live shows and all the bells and whistles.

The show has forgotten what its about. I turned off half way though because I was bored.

Yep, it was Halloween (yet Strictly still got 9 million viewers...)

Next weeks excuse will be Bonfire Night, after that Chrismas shopping/parties/etc etc.

Simon is obviously bored of it. and there are rumours that ITV want to buy the rights to The Voice to replace X Factor.

The thing is, I don't trust ITV with The Voice. They're bound to, for lack of a better term, Cowell it up. It's his production company that's fundamentally the problem with X Factor. They think drama, tears, tension and humiliation makes for good television. Maybe at one point it did but they've either refused to move with the times or they don't know how to.

The Voice on ITV will probably be given a Cowell-esque makeover. Wildcards, tears, humiliation, twists, turns, (unwanted) surprises, last minute desperate format changes and an audience of angry chavs who've not been fed for 3 days.

No chance.

ITV signed a deal with X Factor to continue with the show for at least 3 more years - that was done last year so we'll see X Factor on our screens until 2017 at the very least.

Besides, if Simon goes off to America then the UK will have that Louis lad from One Direction filling in.

I dunno why they are so scared of giving it a hiatus for a few years.

I dunno why anyone who is paid many millions and is supposedly an expert on TV matters cannot see what everyone else can, the blunt truth is that, as with EVERYTHING in life, people get bored of the same thing all the time.

The XF has been like 11 years or whatever of the EXACT same cliches, types of performers, one liners, faux drama, music etc etc etc.

I mean the XF diehards can endlessly watch the same crap for 3 months every year but most other people do eventually get fed up.

The universal rule of TV is that nothing lasts forever.

Trounced by SCD last night by 4 million, that is a staggering gap in 2 programmes going head to head, the old horse should be put out of it's misery it's had it's day.

Great thread it's a shame it's a show about making money and advertising, then again maybe it's always been like that
