Who will cover Adele's Hello and go on to win?

I hope Lauren does.

Bupsi seems the likely candidate.

Seann could trample all over it in kinky boots.

Lauren is the only one!

The REAL non-joke answer is probably "nobody".

Why?

I think it's doubtful they'll be able to get the rights this soon. Adele isn't on a label that's stuffed together with all of Simon's usual cronies in the business. She's on an Indie label and so some actual real negotiation would have to go on.

Point. If SC finds a way round it, though, I would say Seann will channel his inner Shirley Bassey to do a version full of drama and sequins and devoid of any real emotion, and it will be declared A Moment. Shudder!

I think Lauren could pull this off

Strictly somehow got the rights for Sam Smith's 'Writing On The Wall' basically just a week or so after it was released - and before the movie was even released (it was 'Movie Theme Week' - that made me chuckle!). I wouldn't be surprised to see Adele's song at some point in the very near future - especially if they do a 'current hits' theme (songs from 2015 or similar).

Unless they can actually get Adele on the show - and don't rule that one out - then doing her current hit will be the next best thing. Honestly, despite XF not getting the ratings numbers they want right now, it's still one of ITV's big shows, and attracts the high earning ad revenues. Getting Adele on would send the ad revenues sky rocketing! She is very much hot property right now, and I think they'd splash serious cash to get her on!

However, if they do Movie Week (as they usually do at some point), I'd put decent money on Seann doing that Sam Smith song! It would actually suit him perfectly.

It's not how big a hit something is that creates a difficulty. It's the corporate relationships. The Spectre soundtrack was released by Decca. Decca is part of UMG--the biggest record label in the world. The reason Strictly got use of it was probably because the BBC also certainly has an existing relationship with UMG (and I'm sure Simon does too).

Adele's label is XL Recordings. They're no longer a tiny interest, having some major names signed besides Adele (Beck. The White Stripes, Radiohead and a few others), but they're still independent of the traditional big labels. It would be surprising if Syco has an existing relationship to lean on with them. So that's why I said it would have to be negotiated, most likely.

All this talk about "rights" fills me with dread. This is why X Factor contestants get given the same predictable and uninspiring song choices year in, year out.

If they got the rights to allow Hello to be performed, I'd guess Lauren or maybe Sean although a Bupsi version could be a real talking point.

Do you think it would be better if Syco could just TAKE whatever they wanted without consequence or compensation? Rights clearance exists for a reason.

I understand that.

It's just really boring to hear yet another version of I Will Always Love You, R.E.S.P.E.CT. or And I'm Telling You (I'm Not Going).

At least there were a couple of interesting song choices at judges houses. Superstar by The Carpenters, and Take Me Home by Jess Glynne being the main two imo.

It would suit Che better than Seann, but I suspect Seann would win that battle.
