can't text

hi got a nokia 1100 which up to about 2 hours ago was fine but now can't send or recieve text messages can ring out or take calls allright but no texts anyone got a clue about this

vodafone i rang up help line 191 they said mask down but can't get my head round it cos my wife and sons works but mine don't?

If you've set your phone to withhold your number when calling, you won't be able to text from it.

are u sure thats correct? I have my number set to withheld and can still text although I do have a different phone to the one in question!

it makes no difference if you sons and wifes work, as they might have there details on a different base station (mast) as yours, so for example your phones info could be baised in Leeds and your sons/wifes in London, so if that mast in Leeds is down then you cant use full services....when ever your move about the area the masts keeps a temp copy of you phones details and transfer seamlessley from mast to mast....but if one mast goes down the process is disrupted

As I understand it, you must have a return number to be able to send text. That's why landline text services require Caller ID to be enabled, so that the return number can be accessed.

No - withhelding your number does not affect text or picture messaging services in anyway. There is no way of sending a withheld text message from your handset.
