Old news but I wanted to know your opinion.

Olly Murs missed his brothers wedding to perform at The X Factor when he was a contestant on the show. If he didn't attend Simon Cowell may have kicked him out as it was half way through the show.

His brother had planned ahead before Olly applied and he was to be the best man.

The wedding went ahead but the brother claims his immediate family wanted to go to see Olly sing rather then be at the wedding. Plus he also claims they all put on The X Factor to watch him during his reception.

He felt the wedding still revolved around Olly and that they couldn't get refunds so had to go ahead.

He no longer speaks to his family but that may not be the case.

Would you have gone to the wedding or not?

The obvious answer to this, which is actually hidden in plain sight.

I had a similar dilemma about 10 years ago, my son had been on kids stars in their eyes and I got the call from the producer to say that he had won the wildcard vote to go back to the live final. Of course we were delighted but my daughter decided the night before we were due to leave to go into labour 3 weeks early. She wanted me with her as her husband was away, so I obviously went it was a long night but she eventually had her daughter 8 in the morning, she didn't want me to leave but I wanted to go see my son at the studio, it was an alwful dilemma but I couldn't let my son down either. It turns out I went but to this day my daughter brings it up I certainly wouldn't want to go through that again.

It's sad that some people bear a grudge for so long. Olly had no other choice but to go ahead and be on the show, if he hadn't done that, then he wouldn't be where he is now. His brother and family are the ones loosing out by not seeing him. It's so sad when people don't realise that life is to short to not "forgive and forget".

Your are 100% right life is far too short for families to fall out but families do and you know what they say things do happen for a reason

I think it was only X Factor rehearsals which clashed with the wedding. So I can kinda see why Ben was annoyed. But still, it's ridiculous that he held a grudge for so long. And to fall out with his entire family over it? Ben is too stubborn for his own good.

Well if you don't want to speak to someone why should you have to just because he's a relative?
Olly showed him the kind of person he is,and he is perfectly entitled to respond in the way he does.
Actually I think Ben Murs is a man with balls, many other people would have continued relations and feel the hate inside.

The family seem to be ungenerous from both ends. It's the brother's life and his wedding. If Olly couldn't make it then didn't the brother have any other friends he could ask? The wedding would have happened come what may and people enjoyed it. Olly only had one shot at X-Factor and a big career so should have followed his dreams. Any decent brother would respect that. JMHO.

I'm not fan of Olly Murs but I have read a few interviews with him and his family who all say the cracks between them and Ben had been evident for a long time and that this was the straw that broke the camels back.
It seems that Ben's gf/wife didn't get on with Olly and Bens parents and that relations had been strained for a long while

Obviously, none of us know the full story but I think there must be more to it than just a one off incident

It was the semi final as far as I am aware. Olly's brother should have definitely rescheduled the wedding imo.

Wait didn't the boy who was a wildcard win the competition?

Well, we don't know all the details but I can't say I blame the brother 100%. Having such a blatant attention seeking "look-at-me" guy like Olly as a twin brother probably takes it's toll at the best of time, only for him to steal the limelight and family away from you even at your own wedding. The family made their choice (Olly) and that resentment is unlikely to ever go away, so why pretend?

I don't think anyone is entirely in the wrong here.

if i was olly i would have had to go to the show but i would make sure i let everyone else know that if they didn't go to the wedding or made the day any less special for the brother that i wouldn't be cool with that. so i can understand olly doing what he did but not everyone else.

Yes, that's a very balanced view.

Olly did the right thing. Look where he is now. If the brother and his wife don't "get" that, then **** 'em.
