It's an article sponsored by talk talk so basically it's just an advertising campaign to try and boost XFaxtor. Not even worth discussing..

It baffles me how many people on the X Factor forum WANT the show to fail and belittle any good news about it.

i think rather than wanting the show to fail the people criticising the show and "belittling" what you seem to think is good news actually want the show to recognise that the direction the show has been moving in for the last few years isn't working and want to see them stop with all the contrived attempts at creating drama and see it go back to being what attracted people to it in the first place

Do people not understand the main point of ratings is for advertisers and if people are recording XF and skipping ads that doesn't benefit the advertisers. The only saviour for XF is advertisers can't jump to SCD because of the BBC not having adverts. But if advertisers start to wane the costs of this monstrosity can't be maintained by ITV.”

This is a very good point. Partly why I may watch something on catch-up is to fast-forward the ads!
XF is consistently getting trumped in the ratings - ITV, Cowell and TPTB will have to acknowledge this at some point.

"only 1-2 million"

I wish I got paid "only" 1-2 million!

That's a huge difference and completely contradicts the thread title

They ARE the 7 day catch up figures.

They don't include ITVPlayer, but then the BBC figures don't include BBC iPlayer so it's fair.

I dont see the point of this rating war... coz Itv rely on advetisement revenue... while bbc rely on british pocket... why can't we just be happy that we got variety of programs to choose from on Saturdays and Sundays evening... it's good to voice out our opinion but some posters here are constantly complaining as if they are entitled or some sort of tv executive that their life depends on it.

We watch Strictly then have Xfactor to record on sky+, we usually don't start watching until at least an hour after it has started so we can fast forward through all the rubbish and all the ads

Funny thing is I think loads of people do this, so all that advertising revenue is wasted

Yep, agree with you there - I always try to watch an hour behind and then forward all the crap!
They don't realise they are alienating their audience with the continuous ad breaks!!

It was different when X Factor was slaying Strictly in the ratings by 4-5 million +

All seriousness though, let's leave the BBC v ITV ratings bickering to the Ratings thread.

It proves the show is still popular, but catch up viewers won't help them with their advertisers, which is where they make the money.

I don't know a great deal about Product Placement advertisement and what is and isn't allowed, but I am surprised a major drinks company hasn't sponsored the show and had their drinks featured throughout the show, but mainly with branded glasses on the judge's desk like Coca Cola on American Idol and Pepsi on X Factor US. If people are going to skip the ads, maybe companies would be willing to pay to get their products on the main show.

The consolidated ratings are on wiki - they show 8.5m

Which doesn't even touch the Strictly overnights which are 9+ before consolidation.

The article therefore is bollocks

Whether it's losing to Strictly or not, which is a pointless rivalry anyway, the ratings are still impressive. Certainly not the crisis people make it out to be.

Wouldn't lose any sleep if it was cancelled though. I'm struggling to keep watching this year, same with Strictly.

Because there are some of us who have fond memories of the show, when it had credible judges, was stripped back to basics, no joke acts, no backing vocals, no rentamob crowd and none of those ludicrous elaborate stagings and choreography meaning weak acts can be passed off as putting on a "great performance".

You get Yougov surveys at this time of year.
"Did you watch X-Factor" if you say "NO"
next question is - "Why did you not watch X-Factor"

I am pretty sure if you don't show your method and workings out, they just tell ITV that you did watch X-Factor anyway.

Reminds me of this from Parks and Recreation - the voting machine
