Why does SCD copy DWTS with music and dance style?

This has being really noticeable over the last couple of weeks.

1- Peter and Janette's Paso to Pirates of the Caribbean was in the same style and costumes as Riker and Allison's paso from Season 20.

2- Helen and Aljaz's Quickstep was done in a similar style and music to Derek and Amy's Quickstep from Season 18.

I'm sure there have been many more occurrences as well.

You Cant Hurry Love has been used for a quickstep twice before on this show, and a pirate themed paso doble is hardly the most original idea in the world.

In fairness the Pirates of the Caribbean theme works well for Paso in some ways, figure skaters have even used that soundtrack for routines.

And there are many occurrences of dwts using songs and style that were on strictly. It works both ways but at least they don't do carbon copies like other dwts programmes have done.

Seems like it might have been the other way around (2012 vs. 2014)

Bye now!

All the Strictly shows globally use similar tracks and occasionally similar concepts. I don't mind that to be honest I like to play spot the prop or compare/contrast who did it better.
Examples:
DWTS Mark Ballas/Christina Milan did a paso to Applause
https://m.youtube.com/?gl=DE#/watch?v=RuRTBee74Cg
which had the same thrones as Janette's tango with Julien

DWTS Peta and James did a samba to gasolina which right down to red undies has been replicated on French strictly but I think DWTS took that concept from a third country.

The pirates theming was done by DWTS with Carson pre Ryker BUT the one Ryker did was more comparable with the German Let's Dance showdance medley performed a couple of years before. Similarly Germany did a Smooth Operator showdance before Corbin (am half expecting Andre to do a Michael Jackson medley for his showdance if he makes it through).

Some songs work for the dances so well eg jive to Shake it off, they are used several times even if one routine has "iconic" status.* Similarly Themed weeks like Disney there is only so much you can do, so Pixie's be my guest quickstep was the same as Danica's except the latter wore gold and Pixie blue.
*although I am happy never to see dirty dancing done in any shape, way or form ever again. Derek just did the retread with Bindi but way back when, Brendan won it with Kerplunksy using that, then it was used by Pamela then again as a mambo salsa with Flavia/Louis and recently on the German strictly.

There is bound to be crossover with track selection and although I think Amy's QS was the best out the three, conceptually it bore no resemblance...no stupid station or lost scarves. Strictly has already had the Pasha airport QS, the Janette tube QS, Aljaz was just following the transport motif, even People's Strictly had a dance set around a station/returning a book? Derek did his choreo actually on the tube last year (loved that). Before we even get started on dances set in kitchens or bistros or by the seaside or whatnot.

It is hard to do something totally original. You can either play it straight and try to do a classic routine without props or you go along with a concept that the producers know will look good. As long as you do not steal the choreo step for step without giving credit then I have no issue with it. Similar with the American SYTYCD and the UK versions, Mandy Moore Sweet dreams table dispute used twice.

It's such an iconic dance and everybody wants to do it, it's a dream come true for them. Not so much to watch it again and again, but I cope

The only time I'd say Strictly definitely did copy from DWTS, not just with the song choice but with the concept as well, was for this:

Georgia & Giovanni's Jive - www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B7O7FfeOmQ
Rumer & Valentin's Jive - www.youtube.com/watch?v=adPZcO8D0AE

I think they all borrow from each other's but DWTS has 2 series a year I believe to everyone else's one so they're going to use far more music than everyone else
