Why are the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 still available for sale on the Apple website?

Hi, Anyone know why Apple are still selling the iPhone 5s along with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus on their website?

Surely with the iPhone 6s and 6s plus out Apple should realise that NO-ONE will even consider buying any of the older devices, as an iPhone 6 owner I couldn't think of anything worse than buying the iPhone 6 now over the iPhone 6s.

I mean I get people look for budget options but still as a company Apple should focus on their flagships and completely discontinue ALL predecessors.

I'd be very surprised and baffled if I get a reply saying that the poster has just bought or upgraded to the iPhone 6 or Phone 5s.

You'd be surprised how well the iPhone 5s and 6 sell, even with the 6s out.

Plenty of people will buy a cheaper option, it's why the 5c was so popular.

Maybe some people don't want a big phone.

Indeed.

The 5s is a perfectly fine phone that will likely still work for a good few years to come A new iPhone model doesn't come with an automatic requirement to upgrade to it.

They've done this since forever. For a long time the 4S was still on sale as a very cheap iPhone, even though two models had since come out.

It allows them to make money from older stock / older designs as not everyone wants to pay for the newest phone

You can also buy the iPad Air 2 instead of the Air 4 if you want

Even after the 6S being out most people arent going notice hardly any extra features over a 6 and maybe they want save a bit of money makes perfect sense to me or maybe they want save more and buy a 5s which will get updates for a while longer.

If I were on the market for a new iPhone, I'd seriously consider the 6 over the 6s. Of course the 6s is the better handset, but none of the extra features are really must-have and I'd be happy to save some money.

I'm (unimaginably to some I'm sure) still fairly content with my 4s for now.

So an iphone 6 64gb is the same price as a 6s 16gb give or take a couple of quid. I'd take the 64gb phone everyday of the week.

They still make them as they're a supported product and needed for warranty use to replace faulty handsets etc and so if they have to make them why not flog em and also the longer the production line is the cheaper each phone becomes to apple to manufacture as tooling/training etc costs come down.

Got bored?

Its because most sane people will evaluate what they need and choose accordingly - therefore plenty of people will buy them.

You have a very warped opinion of others.

Turn the argument around - why pay a stupid amount for the latest iPhone when it doesn't do a whole lot more than the previous model.

I've actually just upgraded my 16Gb 5s to a 64Gb iPhone 6. I tend to stay a generation behind the curve and get a very capable device with a price cut, which will still be supported with firmware updates for at least a year.

For me the slightly upgraded camera, Force Touch and a slightly faster processor aren't worth the money - maybe next year after the iPhone 7 has come out!

It's unbelievable to me how much they still charge for the 6 which is over a year old now.

The thing I hate is that most places only sell the 6 and 5s in 16GB! This is 2015 not 2009.

I'm surprised how many people still buy into the iPhone.

Mac's on the other hand are a premium worth paying.

Apple normally reduces the capacity of the oldest models. The 4S was only available as an 8GB model prior to Apple discontinuing it.

As for other retailers, either they aren't getting the stock from Apple, or they don't think people will come to them to pay £700 for a phone, when they can instead sell more 16GBs for a lot less, or an Android/WinPhone for £150

The 16gb models probably will be a lot for business usage, no need to shell out for extra storage if all they're going to do is read emails and chat with maybe use a few apps as well and the lack of storage stop the user filling it full of mp3's and other shite the company doesn't fancy

Why are you surprised that people still buy into the iPhone ? It's the best smartphone I've owned, ( although not hard after having a samsung Galaxy junk) . if you have a Mac or iPad the iPhone makes things even better as the continuity / handoff integration is great, I love texting and answering calls when using my Mac and iPad.

How people can say that there is "little change" in the iPhone 6s to the iPhone 6 and that [iPhone 6S] it is not worth the extra money really pisses me off tbh, I mean I have got the iPhone 6 and the mum has got the iPhone 6s and IMO they are worlds apart in terms of usability and differences between the two devices. When I go from using the 3D Force Touch on my mums phone to doing something on mine that is when I realise just how basic and shit the iPhone 6 is, also the Live Photos are an amazing feature too.

Macs are no more worth the premium than iPhones.

I have no problems with phones having only 16gb storage - in my case, we have iPhones for corporate usage, for which they're primarily used for calls and email, and whilst you are allowed to install some apps, as it is a company provided device, that is how it should be used.

And 16gb is more than enough for that market, whilst keeping the prices slightly lower.

3D Force touch (what an utterly lousy name) is a gimmick. Perfect for artistic usage, otherwise it has no real difference from a slightly longer press (ie. right click, context menus).

I didn't realise that Live Photos hadn't been enabled on the prior generation of phones. Absolutely no technical reason for it whatsoever, and I'll agree that it is a nice feature - it was lovely when i had it on my L1020 a few years back.

BTW It's not called that (regardless of what the OP called it) and you obviously haven't used it (other than playing in a shop or with a friend's).

My friend in Phoenix told me last night he is upgrading to a iPhone 6S from a 6 only because T-Mobile US have just secured the 700MHz A licence there. He said he wouldn't otherwise as his iPhone 6 is fine but having greater indoor coverage will be massive improvement.

Seeing as we don't have that problem in UK with even the upcoming 2300MHz spectrum already being supported on iPhones unless you really desperately need the latest phone can't see why you wouldn't try and save yourself a bit of money.

Pressure sensitive screens are utterly brilliant for drawing, painting, etc. Otherwise it is little more than a variant on a right click. You can argue til you're blue in the face, but that is all that it is.

People, don't feed the troll.

He probably doesn't even have an old 4S, let alone a 6S.
