Alan Dedicoat

Is Alan's voice recorded?

It has not really occurred to me before. But essentially he says the same thing each week. A couple of weeks ago there was a glitch, almost as if someone had pushed a button twice. It sounded to "jerky" to be a mumble.

Then at the weekend I could swear I heard a bit of digital beak up. So, is he live or (for those who remember such things) is it Memorex?

I don't know about Strictly, but Alan Dedicoat also does the announcements on Dancing With The Stars and these are pre-recorded.

" Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli appeared as judges on the US version, for which Alan Dedicoat also did the voiceover (though since all the announcements are pre-recorded, he never even got to leave London). "

They will be pre-recorded, for sure. It's the same words every week so it would be a bit pointless for him to be there live. He probably records all lines needed before the series starts, with every combination of dance and couple, so they can pick and choose.

Or more likely, he pre-records them during the week when all the dances are known.

Mind you, he has to do the lottery live on Saturdays (unless he's pre-recorded every possible combination of numbers )

These voice-over people can do a lot of work at home nowadays with just a basic home studio set-up and then uploading their recordings in digital format.

He does the national lottery live, ( has to) so is around, it's easy to do both live if they wanted.

Calling out the Lotto numbers from a pre-record might make the national lottery seem a bit, hem-hem, corrupt

I realise a lot of these things can come "down the line". Though Strictly and the Lottery come from different studios don't they? (Pinewood and Elstree)
