Ideally they will ditch themes and instead each week pick any song that actually favours the contestants.

Sadly I think a theme will be announced in due time, and when the song choices leak the day before everyone will go "didn't they use those songs last year. And 2013? And 2011? And every other series?". I'll be gobsmacked if there are a minimum of 6 original song choices for the first live show.

I don't mind themes if they're not too specific. So for example I don't like it when they have to sing a song by a certain artist. If it was say "90s" or "love" then it's not too bad as it doesn't favour any contestant.

I can't see them ditching them though. This week will probably be Halloween, which some contestants will get round by simply dressing up and then singing what the hell they want.

Edit|: Ah just seen the link above, no Halloween theme then, lol. Good - because there are literally only about 5 "scary" songs.

Executive Producer Cheryl is not a fan of themes. They should just have broad descriptions.

She's not listed in the credits as an Executive Producer so I don't know why Simon said she is one.

X factor is all messed up this year thanks to the awesome rugby . Im not a fan of the themes but it does show the singers strengths and weaknesses, I agree that the themes should be less specific .

Theme will be a tad more serious this year round, and it is the first live show of the series after all.

The Radio Times reports that in place of Halloween, the opening theme will be one of 'This Is Me'. Nothing to do with the Demi Lovato song (TUNNNE), rather the finalists will each perform a song they feel shows who they are as an artist.

So you're telling me that the contestants will actually have a say in their song choices.

Usually it's Simon coming out with "I've given you a song which will take you outside your comfort zone" meaning "Sorry but I think I've picked a really bad song for you".
